[Comparison] Lenovo ThinkBook 14 Gen 4+ vs ThinkBook 14 Gen 3 – what are the differences?
Most of the time, when a laptop gets a new version, it gets new internals, while keeping the design intact. This is not what happened with the ThinkBook 14 Gen 4+, which now has an improved design. To see what is kept the same and what has changed, we are comparing the ThinkBook Gen 4+ against the Gen 3. You have a well-built device with Alder Lake hardware and integrated graphics.
Full Specs: Lenovo ThinkBook 14 Gen 4+ / ThinkBook 14 Gen 3
The design has the same basic outline, with a two-tone finish on the lid, ThinkBook, and Lenovo branding. You have an aluminum lid and chassis, with a reverse notch on top, which houses the Webcam, which has an FHD resolution, along with an accompanying IR sensor for face recognition and Windows Hello. There is a change in the keyboard layout as well, with the Gen 4+ getting a NumPad. The new device is also 30 grams heavier and 2 mm thinner when compared to its predecessor.
There is a big shift in the display selection, with the 16:9 FHD panel being replaced by several 16:10 options. The
base model features an FHD+ display, with options for 2.2K or 2.8K panels as well. Naturally, they come with 100% DCI-P3 coverage.
Specs-wise, the two Tiger Lake CPUs (Core i5-1155G7 and Core i7-1195G7) are replaced by two new Alder Lake P-series SKUs (Core i5-1250P and Core i7-1280P). The new processors have a max TDP of 28W, along with a mix of Performance and Efficiency cores, which should also pack a decent punch. The one thing that remains the same is the Iris Xe Graphics G7 integrated graphics.
