Intel Core Ultra 7 258V vs AMD Ryzen AI 9 HX 370 – Intel for Gaming, AMD for Work
The battle is on! Intel has just dropped their Core Ultra Series 2 lineup, and you can be sure they’ve tried their best as they don’t have much choice now, especially after the release of AMD’s Ryzen AI 300 series and Qualcomm’s Snapdragon X variants.
Today, we’ll compare the new Core Ultra 7 258V against Intel’s longtime main rival, AMD, and their Ryzen 300 flagship – Ryzen 9 HX 370.
Note: There’s also an HX 375 model that AMD quietly added later as a top variant, but it looks like it’s exclusive to HP and their OmniBook Ultra 14. We still haven’t tested it, but it’s almost identical to the HX 370, with the only difference being a slightly more powerful NPU, rated at 55 TOPS peak INT8 performance vs 50 TOPS for the HX 370.

AI Performance
While we’re on the topic of TOPS and AI, let’s check the AI performance of the Intel Core Ultra 7 258V and the AMD Ryzen AI 9 HX 370.
On paper, the HX 370 is slightly faster with its 50 TOPS of peak theoretical AI power compared to 48 TOPS for the Core Ultra Series 2 chip.
In reality, AMD hasn’t sorted out their software support yet, so we’ll have to wait a bit to see how it performs in real-life scenarios.
CPU Performance
We’ve only tested the Intel Core Ultra 7 258V in the ASUS Zenbook S 14, which is a thin and light notebook. The most similar AMD Ryzen AI 9 HX 370-powered notebook we have in our database is the ASUS Zenbook S 16. Keep in mind that the HX 370 may have a slight advantage here, thanks to the larger chassis of the S 16.
However, the difference in performance is enormous, as the HX 370 is almost two times faster in Cinebench 2024’s multi-core test, which is a good representation not only for 3D rendering but for other heavy-duty tasks too, like video editing.
In the single-core test, the difference is much smaller, with just a 10% advantage for Ryzen AI 9 HX 370.

GPU Performance
In terms of GPU performance, the Intel Arc Graphics 140V has the upper hand, offering 20-30% higher GPU performance than AMD’s Radeon 890M. The difference is huge, but it’s not that the Radeon 890M is weak—it’s just that the new Arc Graphics 140V is an exceptional iGPU:

Conclusion
For heavy work, the AMD Ryzen shows real muscle; its CPU performance is impressive. However, if you’re using your laptop for writing emails, surfing the web, and other undemanding tasks, just choose the better-priced option. But if you want to add some casual gaming to your day and don’t want to spend money on a dedicated GPU, the Arc Graphics 140V could be a great choice thanks to its solid gaming performance.
