AMD has been dominating in the last couple of years. Now, Intel has finally decided to cut loose and strike to reclaim the throne. With their Tiger Lake CPUs being very promising, even scoring wins against Zen 3-based chips, something that would have gotten a total laugh if heard 2 or three years ago.

That is why for today, we have the Ryzen 3 5300U, which still uses the older Zen 2 architecture, despite bearing the 5000 name. Going against it is the Core i5-1135G7, which has been making waves, being a nice middle ground between the Core i3 and Core i7.

CPU benchmarks

The Core i5-1135G7 dominated the CPU benchmarks, performing 14% better in the 3D Rendering benchmark and was nearly two and a half seconds faster in the 2D Rendering tests with Adobe Photoshop. This is a huge improvement, especially in the 3D Rendering field, since this is where AMD has been dominating the most.

GPU benchmarks

The GPU benchmarks tell a very similar story, as the Iris Xe Graphics G7 with 80 Execution Units dominated the RX Vega 6, scoring 76%, 72%, and 82% higher in 3DMark Fire Strike, Unigine Heaven 4.0, and Unigine Superposition, respectively. The gaming tests went in favor of Intel as well, with the Xe Graphics G7 performing much better, having a 73% higher FPS on average in CS:GO and 49% higher FPS on average in DOTA 2.

Conclusion

We’re sorry AMD fans, but we just can’t recommend the Ryzen 3 5300U, as its opponent performs miles better, in both the CPU and GPU fields. Its GPU is so good, in fact, that you can effortlessly play esports titles on max settings, getting 60+ fps. In terms of price, though, we expect to see more and more Ryzen 3 5300U laptops to be released, and it should be the more affordable choice.
