[34 Gaming tests and videos] AMD Radeon RX 640 vs NVIDIA GeForce MX350 [10W] – the NVIDIA GPU wins big time

If you are on a hunt for a new device with a low-budget GPU, the mobile market is pretty well populated with a lot of options to pick from. The first thing that you can check is the AMD Zen 2 iGPUs because in most cases their performance is okay for budget machines and for games like Dota 2. Need something a bit more powerful? The next stop is the NVIDIA MX series and the AMD Radeon RX 640.

The red company doesn’t have a lot of mobile dedicated GPUs right now and the RX 640 is something like a lone wolf surrounded by many green competitors. That’s why for today’s comparison we picked the AMD Radeon RX 640 and the NVIDIA GeForce MX350 (10W) – both are budget offerings so let’s see which one of them is a better choice.

Specs overview

The AMD Radeon RX 640 is a Polaris GPU and it uses Polaris 23 chip. We have 640 shaders, 16 ROPs, and up to 4GB GDDR5 memory. Frequencies wise, the base core clock can go from 1082 MHz to 1218 MHz and the memory is clocked at 6000 MHz, and its bus is 64-bit.

The NVIDIA GeForce MX350 (10W) is the successor of the MX250 (10W). It’s almost the same GPU as the good old GTX 1050 but it has a 64-bit memory bus and the TGP is lowered to 10W. This a Pascal video card that is based on the GP107 chip. It offers 640 shader units and 16 ROPs. The base and the boost clocks are 747 MHz and 937 MHz. The memory is set to 7008 MHz.

Verdict

Undoubtfully, the GeForce MX350 (10W) is the better and faster GPU in this article. It offers much more performance when compared to the AMD Radeon RX 640. The latter is an uninspiring product because it falls behind when it faces almost any other low-budget dGPU. Even a lot of AMD iGPUs are better than the RX 640 – the AMD Vega 6 (Ryzen 4000, 15W) is faster than the RX 640 and yes, we are talking about integrated graphics with just 15W TDP for the whole SoC.

The Radeon RX 640 consumes more power and it’s much slower compared to the GeForce MX350 (10W) which makes the green video card a far better choice.
