[38 Gaming tests + videos] NVIDIA GeForce MX350 vs GeForce GTX 1050 – the same GPU chip for both but the 1050 is more than 50% faster
The NVIDIA GeForce MX350 is a curious case. Yes, this is the successor of the well-known GeForce MX250, but the new one origins from a much powerful GPU. Simply said, the MX350 is the GTX 1050 but the MX video card has a 64-bit bus and just a 25W TGP.
Seems fine, greatly reduced memory bus and TGP, and when you add almost the same frequencies in the mix you can call it a day because this GPU can be found in thinner laptops than the ones equipped with the GTX 1050. Ergo, this is a simple scheme for a low-end GPU without too many technical efforts.
Since the MX350 is a cut-down version of the GTX 1050 we thought that it’s a good idea to compare these two and see how much power is taken away from the MX350.

Specs overview
As we said, the NVIDIA GeForce MX350 is the successor of the MX250. It’s the same chip as the GTX 1050 but the memory bus is cut to 64-bit and the TGP is decreased to 25W. No matter what, the new one looks like a much more powerful video card compared to the MX250. It’s a Pascal video card that is based on the GP107 chip with 640 shader units and 16 ROPs. The base and the boost clocks are 1354 MHz and 1468 MHz. The memory is set to 7008 MHz.
As you may have guessed, the GeForce GTX 1050 isn’t that different. This is the same 14nm Pascal GP107 video card, that has the same amount of shader units and ROPs as its smaller sibling. The base core clock and the memory clock are equal when you are comparing these two GPUs (the boost clock of GTX 1050 is 2% higher). The main advantage of the GTX 1050 is the 128-bit memory bus and a much higher TGP limit of 75W.

Verdict
Well, in terms of pure performance, the GeForce GTX 1050 simply destroys the MX350 in direct comparison like this one. Yep, it’s like two different worlds. But don’t forget the fact that these two GPUs have different purposes. Let’s start with the newer one- the MX350. Hmm, it’s new only on paper because it’s the same video card as the normal GTX 1050 but with reduced power. However, it dissipates less heat and it doesn’t require significant cooling.
This GPU is suitable for thinner and lighter notebooks that combine good portability, lower temperatures, and acceptable entry-level gaming capabilities. Our test device with the MX350 is thinner, lighter, cooler, and much silent under load than the test machine with the full-blown GTX 1050. So, if your main focus isn’t gaming then the MX350 seems like a good choice.
Speaking of the GTX 1050, this one has one pure advantage – performance. If you plan to play newer and heavier games, yes, this one is much faster than its smaller sibling. It’s not a powerhouse but it’ll do the job without breaking the bank – you can play games like DOOM Eternal, Battlefield V, GTA V, Need For Speed Heat, Assassin’s Creed Odyssey, etc if you stick to Medium details. So, the GTX 1050 is a decently fast and affordable GPU and with its aid, you can play a lot of games at 1080p with good fps (on low-to-medium settings).
