Acer Swift 3 SF314-58 (2020) vs Acer Swift 3 SF314-57 (2019) – the new one comes with Comet Lake CPUs

Since Acer has released the new Acer Swift 3 SF314-58/G we can compare it with the 2019 model – Acer Swift 3 SF314-57/G. The Swift 3 lineup is all about versatility. Those notebooks are like chameleons and they fit perfectly in every situation – school, office, business meetings, outside usage in the park, etc. The 2019 model is a very good device with great build quality, long battery life, and a decent screen with one drawback that we will discuss a bit further. You can check our in-depth analysis of the Acer Swift 3 SF314-57 here.

The Acer Swift 3 SF314-58 has some new specs here and there so let’s check them out.

Design: almost the same look but with thicker bezels

Not a lot of differences between the two models. They look almost identical except that the new one has a bit thicker bezels – maybe because Acer uses new display panels for the 2020 variants? We will confirm this after we get our hands on the device for a review. The new models are a bit thicker and heavier than last years’ ones – this is not progress.

Display: 1080p IPS panel

Just like the 2019 variant, the Acer Swift 3 SF314-58 has a 14″ IPS display with Full HD resolution. As we have mentioned above, the new one has a bit thicker bezels and perhaps this is a sign that Acer uses new panels for the new notebooks. If it’s true, we can expect at least better sRGB color coverage because we were not completely happy with the one of the 2019 model.

Hardware: Comet Lake for all

Interestingly enough, the new 2020 variant can be configured with 10th gen Comet Lake CPUs only. Unlike 2019 notebooks which can be picked with Ice Lake CPUs too – those processors are more efficient than Comet Lake and have much better iGPUs. No matter if you like it or not we have to reconcile with this fact. So, 14nm CPUs with Intel UHD graphics. The “G” models are equipped with dedicated NVIDIA graphics but Acer doesn’t give us additional info about the exact GPU models.

Connectivity and ports: a decent amount of ports

We can spot an HDMI connector, two USB Type-A 3.1 (Gen. 1), one USB Type-A 3.1 (Gen. 2), a Thunderbolt 3 connector, a USB Type-A 2.0 port, an audio combo jack, and an SD card slot. Acer has added one extra USB USB Type-A 3.1 port and an SD card slot than the 2019 model – good.

Other specs: Wi-Fi 6 and Bluetooth 5.0

Just like the Acer Swift 3 SF314-57, the new one has 802.11ax, Bluetooth 5.0 and Kensington lock on board.
