Apple MacBook Pro 13 (Touch Bar / 2020) vs Apple MacBook Pro 13 (Touch Bar / Mid-2019) – faster hardware and more storage space
Apple MacBook Pro 13 gets a lot of new updates both hardware and software. The new one comes with double the base storage, new magic keyboard for a better typing experience, and new CPU options with faster iGPUs. As always, the Retina display is onboard alongside the new operating system – macOS Catalina. The design seems unchanged but it’s not a needed thing just because it still looks good.

Design: the same sleek look
Yep, the device still looks good and modern. The portability is definitely a strong key-selling point for the Apple MacBook Pro 13 (Touch Bar / 2020) – the thickness is just 15.6mm but on the other side, the machine is a bit thicker than its predecessor (14.9 mm) which is probably due to the usage of the newer and more powerful CPUs. The weigh is decent – 1.40 kg which is slightly heavier than the older model (1.37kg).

Display: Retina display
Expectedly, you get a 13″ Retina display with 2560 x 1600 resolution and 500 nits of maximum brightness. The color coverage spreads to the DCI-P3 space – this if official information from Apple but we have to test it first in our lab.

Hardware: 10th gen CPUs, new iGPUs
In terms of hardware, the new Apple MacBook Pro 13 offers a decent bump of CPU power thanks to some fast Intel Ice Lake CPUs alongside one of the fastest iGPUs – the Intel Iris Plus G7. The latter can be a pretty fast iGPU even when its compared to a decent affordable dedicated video card. CPU-wise, you can choose between these chips (and some other as well) – Intel Core i7-8557U, i7-1068NG7, i5-8257U, i5-1038NG7. The top dog is the i7-1068NG7 which may be (still unconfirmed info) an Apple-reserved CPU (as well as the other “N” processors like the i5-1038NG7). No matter what, this fella is faster than the Intel Core i7-1065G7 because it has higher Base (2.30 GHz to 1.30 GHz) and Boost (4.10 GHz to 3.90 GHz) clocks.
All devices are equipped with a fast 3733MHz memory which will additionally boost the CPU and iGPU performance.
Connectivity and ports: Mac-ish
The port selection is the following – two/four USB 3.1 Gen 2 (Type-C) ports with Thunderbolt 3 and DisplayPort capabilities, and an audio combo jack.
Storage and other specs: Doubled default storage space, magic keyboard, and macOS Catalina
Now, the base storage space is 256GB, of course, we are talking about a fast SSD drive with good sequential read and write speeds. You can go up to 4TB SSD if you need so much space (and if you can afford it). Another fresh thing is the magic keyboard with a redesigned scissor mechanism with a 1mm key travel, the arrows keys have a new inverted-“T” arrangement, and …wait for it – an Escape key! When it comes to the operating system, the latest macOS Catalina will be preinstalled on every machine. Keep in mind that the devices equipped with the older 8th Generation processors will come at a lower price, but will feature only two Thunderbolt connectors (compared to four).
