[Comparison] Intel Core i7-11600H vs Intel Core i7-10870H – a battle of inches

Today, we are putting the Core i7-11600H side by side with the Core i7-10870H, which delivers pure single-core performance that can combat even the newest Zen 3 and Tiger Lake H chips. It is one of the last chips from the Comet Lake-H series to hit the market, and it launched with the notoriously good MSI GP66 Leopard.

This is especially important for gaming, as not a lot of games are optimized to use all the available power of a CPU. Specs-wise, the older CPU has two more cores and four more threads, along with a boost clock speed of 5.00GHz, which will be tough to reach, but the potential is there.

Without further ado, here is our comparison between the Core i7-11600H and the Core i7-10870H.

    CPU benchmarks

You can see the power of the Core i7-10870H, with the extra cores, threads, and higher speeds coming in a full circle, allowing it to score very near to the newer Core i7-11600H. Still, the Tiger Lake CPU is just a tiny bit faster, with a lead of nearly 1% in 3D Rendering with Cinebench 20. Moving to Photoshop, the Core i7-10870H finishes first, with a lead of 0.4 seconds.

Results are from the Cinebench R23 CPU test (the higher the score, the better)

    Conclusion

The Core i7-10870H is very competitive despite being a generation behind. Still, the Core i7-11600H managed to secure a higher 3D Rendering score, despite lacking the physical hardware. This is a testament to just how much of an improvement Tiger Lake has been. However, in Photoshop, where the benchmark is shorter, the higher clocks of the older CPU give it the edge. The truth is that if you are choosing between the two, just get the less expensive one, while also looking at reviews of the exact device, to see how everything else performs like cooling and battery life.
