[Comparison] Intel Core i7-1160G7 vs Core i7-1165G7 – the Core i7-1160G7 struggles a bit against its more powerful brother, but it showcases tremendous potential

New Tiger Lake chips are hitting the market as we speak. The processors in question are the low-TDP versions of the already existing Tiger Lake CPUs, which already had a fairly low TDP. One of them is the Core i7-1160G7, which sounds awfully familiar to the Core i7-1165G7. That is why, for today’s comparison we will put these two processors against each other, to see who will come out on top.

Today we are comparing the Core i7-1160G7 against the Core i7-1165G7.

    CPU benchmarks

In the 3D Rendering benchmark with Cinebench R20, the lower-powered processor came out on top, having a 3% higher score. However, the i7-1165G7 quickly came back and had the upper hand in Photoshop, where it finished the benchmark first and had a lead of nearly one second.

Results are from the Cinebench R23 CPU test (the higher the score, the better)

    GPU benchmarks

In the GPU benchmarks, the results weren’t as close as the ones in the CPU benchmarks. Although the CPUs have the same iGPU inside them, the Iris Xe Graphics G7 with 96 Execution Units, the one in the Core i7-1165G7 showed a better performance in every benchmark and game that we tested. The iGPU performed 12%, 20%, and 13% better in 3DMark Fire Strike, Unigine Heaven 4.0, and Unigine Superposition, respectively.

Results are from 3DMark Fire Strike (Graphics) benchmark (higher the score, the better)

Results are from the Unigine Superposition benchmark (higher the score, the better)

    Conclusion

Overall the Core i7-1160G7 performed very admirably, despite its TDP and clock speeds disadvantage. It had the upper hand in 3D Rendering but lost in 2D Rendering. In the GPU tests, the iGPU inside the Core i7-1165G7 showed better performance, which was expected, as it has more room to work with, in terms of TDP and clock speeds. The same story repeated itself in the gaming tests, with the same iGPU being 37% better on average in CS:GO and 3% better on average in DOTA 2 across all the different settings presets.
