[Comparison] Intel Core i7-1280P vs Intel Core i7-12650H – Extra cores VS More wattage, let’s see who’ll get on top
The advancement in performance of the Alder Lake P-series is something fresh to see in the mobile CPU market. Similar to the HS-series from AMD and their Ryzen CPUs, they are made for thinner and lighter laptops, in order to better find a balance between efficiency and power.
The Core i7-1280P is a standout CPU in that regard, going as far as to deliver power on the level of the bigger H-series chips. That’s why today we’re putting it against the Core i7-12650H, to see if the 4 more cores on the Core i7-1280P can compensate for the lower wattage.
Today we are comparing the Core i7-1280P against the Core i7-12650H.

CPU benchmarks
The Core i7-1280P is fantastic in 3D Rendering, showing a 17% higher score in Cinebench R23. Moving into Photoshop, The P-series chip is faster here as well, however, the difference is much smaller, at only 0.19 seconds.
Results are from the Cinebench R23 CPU test (the higher the score, the better)
Conclusion
The P-series is a very powerful chip that also manages to be pretty efficient, as with a lower TDP, it can conserve a lot of power. So far, even the more powerful Core i7-12650H has been found in slimmer and more compact devices, like the TUF Dash F15 and the Acer Swift 3 OLED, which can totally work well with the Core i7-1280P. All in all, the extra four cores show up big in prolonged tasks, where all hands are on deck and you need as much power as possible.
