Microsoft Surface Book 3 (15.0″) vs Microsoft Surface Book 2 (15.0″) – 15 inches of detachability
The big boy of Microsoft has been updated too. Here the exterior visuals have been retained but under the bonnet, there are new CPUs, more powerful video cards (and even a Quadro model), and the latest Wi-Fi standard is supported as well.
What kind of users needs a machine like this one? Well, probably people that want something a bit more versatile, and let’s say extravagant (if there is someone close to you while detaching the display, the “wow” effect is guaranteed). If you want more freedom or better portability, just unclick the panel and that’s all.

Design: the same Surface design
No visual changes here, but hey, this one still looks good and up to date – a sleek, neutral look and a magnesium body. It’s not a surprise that the weight and the profile are the same compared to the last year’s model – 1.90 kg and 23 mm.

Display: 15″ screen with an unorthodox aspect ratio
Yep, 3:2 aspect ratio, it may sound a bit unusual to you but it’s really comfortable for reading Web pages or writing something on an MS Office document because of the added vertical screen space. The resolution is 3240 x 2160 which is on the high side for a 15″ panel.

Hardware: only one Ice lake processor, NVIDIA GTX Max-Q, and Quadro
The Ice Lake Intel Core i7-1065G7 is the only CPU choice. This is a 10th gen Intel CPU with a 10nm tech process and it comes with an Intel Iris Plus G7 iGPU which is pretty fast for an integrated solution. No matter what, this is one of the fastest Ice Lake chips and the usage of a fast and efficient 3733Mhz LPDDR4x memory will boost its performance even further. If the iGPU isn’t enough for your specific needs, you can pick the NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1660 Ti Max-Q or even the Quadro RTX 3000 Max-Q.
Connectivity and ports: good port selection
The port selection of this thin 15-incher looks fine. The I/O contains the following ports – two USB 3.1 Gen 2 (Type-A) ports, a USB 3.1 Gen 2 (Type-C with USB Power Delivery 3.0) port, a headphone jack, two Surface Connect ports, and a full-size SDXC card reader.
Storage and other specs: up to 2TB SSD, Bluetooth 5.0, and Wi-Fi 6
The storage options include 256GB, 512GB, 1TB, or 2TB PCIe SSDs. Sure, if you need a lot of space the last SSD option is a good variant but it comes at a cost (literally). For additional space, you can add a huge SD card if you want. As you may have already guessed, Wi-Fi 6 and Bluetooth 5.0 are part of the whole package.
