MSI GF65 Thin 10Sx vs MSI GF65 Thin – compact gaming machine with 10th gen CPUs

Mid-range gaming machine with low weight and decent dimensions – this is the MSI GF65 Thin 10Sx. The new one looks identical to its predecessor but under the hood, you can find the new Intel Comet Lake-H CPUs and some new connectivity options. Moreover, the cooling solution is good enough for a full-blown GPU like the NVIDIA GeForce RTX 2060 which is the most powerful graphics option for this particular laptop.

This compact fella boasts three different display variants – one for every taste and …wallet size.

    Design: compact and light machine

No visual differences when comparing both machines. Probably this is a good cost-saving solution too. No matter what, the design is still up to date for a not-so-expensive laptop – the profile and the bezels are thin, and the weigh is on the low side.

Display: three display options from 60Hz to 144Hz

It’s not a surprise that the base display has a 60Hz refresh rate but it’s an IPS panel so the viewing angles should be decent. The next one is a 120Hz display and if you need something more, MSI offers a 144Hz panel as well. If you want this particular panel it’s not a bad idea to pick a more powerful graphics card.

Hardware: up to 6 core Comet Lake processors and RTX 2060

If you are on a budget, you can choose the Intel Core i5-10300H which is a modest 4-core CPU with 8 threads and a 45W TDP. If you want a faster video card and a 144Hz monitor you can pick the 6-core solution which is the Core i7-10750H.

In terms of GPUs, we have almost the same graphics options as the older model – RTX 2060, GTX 1660 Ti, and GTX 1650 Max-Q. The latter is a good variant if you want a battery-friendly but still decently fast graphics card.

Connectivity and ports: modest port selection

The MSI GF65 Thin 10Sx offers the following ports – two USB 3.2 Gen1 (Type-C) ports, two USB 3.2 Gen1 (Type-A) ports, an RJ45 port, an HDMI connector, and an audio combo jack.

Storage and other specs: single-color backlit keyboard, two NVMe slots, and 51Wh battery

The laptop comes with two M.2 – one of them is a combo slot which means that it supports both NVMe PCIe Gen3 SSDs as well as M.2 SATA drives. Moreover, there are two keyboard options, a single-color backlit unit, and a “Full-Size Keyboard” which probably stands for “no backlight”. Yes, unfortunately, there is no optional Steelseries keyboard. The battery is the well-known 51Wh unit and for connectivity, we can spot Wi-Fi 6 and Bluetooth 5.1.
