NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1050 Ti vs GeForce GTX 1050 – both GPUs deliver good performance but the 1050 Ti is 13% faster
Sometimes users need versatile machines. These devices have to bring reasonable performance in games, daily tasks, office work, and perhaps a decent battery life as well. And if you want something faster than GeForce MX250 / MX350 but your budget is tight the next logical choice is the good “old” GTX 1050s. The laptops that come with the GeForce GTX 1050 Ti or GTX 1050 aren’t the fastest but they will probably do the job in most scenarios like playing games after work or editing some photos after the summer vacation.
But which one is the better choice? Well, we are going to find the answer in this direct comparison with 36 gaming tests and gaming videos. And probably we can ease your choice if you are hesitating which one of these two to pick for your next budget gaming machine.

Specs overview
The NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1050 Ti is the bigger sibling of the regular GTX 1050. The big one has 768 shader units, 32 ROPs, and a bit higher base and boost clocks – 1493 MHz and 1620 MHz respectively. In short, this is from where the extra performance comes from – more shaders and ROPs. It uses the GP107 chip which means that this is a Pascal video card. Just like the non-Ti model, this chip is equipped with up to 4GB GDDR5 video memory with a 128-bit bus and with 7000 MHz frequency, 75W TGP, and it uses a 14nm tech process.
The regular GeForce GTX 1050 isn’t too far away from the Ti model. This is again a 14nm Pascal GP107 video card, that has 640 shader units and 16 ROPs. The base and boost frequencies are 1354 MHz / 1493 MHz while the memory is set to 7000 MHz.

Verdict
Given the price difference between the laptops equipped with the GTX 1050 Ti and the ones with the GTX 1050, maybe the bigger GP107 is the better choice if the prices are close. Yes, 13% more performance isn’t a huge margin but sometimes this is the difference between the unplayable game (because of stuttering) and acceptable FPS. When it comes to power consumption and comfort during gameplay, at least our two testing devices we very close in terms of noise which was at acceptable levels.
However, these two GPUs are much faster than their MX cousins like the MX350, MX250, etc. So, if the performance of the MX-based devices isn’t enough for you and the price of the GTX 1650 laptops is too high for you, yes, the GTX 1050 Ti and the GTX 1050 are good budget GPUs that bring performance and value to the table.
