NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3070 (130W) vs RTX 3060 (130W) – RTX 3070 wins but the smaller GPU is fast too
The NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3070 (130W) is a potent graphics card that is able to compete with some ex-flagships like the RTX 2080 Super Max-Q. On the other hand, it’s not consuming too much power for a full-blown video card of this kind of caliber (and performance). It seems that in 2021 we’ll see a lot of video cards with different TGPs. For example, the RTX 3070 comes in three different versions – 85W, 95W, and 130W.
It looks like the GeForce RTX 3060 will follow the steps of its bigger sibling. This GPU can be found in several different TGP version, from 60 to 115W, and now there is even a 130W GPU. Perhaps NVIDIA has decided to give more freedom to the manufacturers by fully unleashing the mid-range GPU with bigger power limits.
So, let’s see how big is the difference between the GeForce RTX 3070 and RTX 3060 when their TGPs are equal.

GeForce RTX 3070 and RTX 3060 variants
The GeForce RTX 3070 [130W] comes with 1110 MHz/1620 Mhz core frequencies and its memory is clocked at 1750 Mhz. This GPU has plenty of CUDAs (5120) and ROPs (80).
However, the RTX 3060 (130W) offers higher core clocks than its bigger nephew – 1387 MHz/1702 Mhz and it has the same memory frequency. Speaking of memory, in this case, the bus is narrower – 192-bit (just like the RTX 2060).

Verdict
One thing we know for sure – the GeForce RTX 3060 (130W) is a very capable mid-ranger. Undoubtedly, the GeForce RTX 3070 (130W) is definitely faster but the performance levels of the smaller GPU are more than good for a GPU from its class.
As you can see, in some cases the performance gap isn’t that big (like Far Cry 5 and Rise Of The Tomb Raider). On the other hand, we saw a big lead for the RTX 3070 (130W) In Wildlands and Shadow of the Tomb Raider, especially when everything is bumped to the max.
Despite the fact that the GeForce RTX 3070 is the winner in this comparison, the RTX 3060 (130W) offers a lot of bang for its price.
