NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3070 (85W) vs RTX 3070 (95W) – the 95W GPU wins but the smaller GPU is fast as well

Nowadays it’s getting a bit complicated for the regular consumer to pick the right laptop for its needs. Thing is, there are so much different CPUs and GPUs on the market and sometimes that is a bit confusing – for example, the NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3070 can be found in three different versions – 85W, 95W, and 130W.

For today’s article, we are about the compare the 85W version and its 95W sibling. Hardware-wise, these are almost identical GPUs, they just have different clocks and power limits. In the mobile world 10W TGP gap isn’t that small so let’s check how faster is the 95W GPU compared to the 85W GeForce RTX 3070.

As we said, not much of a difference between these two. They are both Ampere video cards that use GA104 chip. The smaller one is clocked lower at 780 MHz/1290 MHz for the core and 1500 MHz memory clock. The bigger GPU has 930 MHz/1410 MHz base and boost clocks and the same memory clock.

The other specs are all the same and you can see them in the table down below.

    Verdict

It’s not a surprise that the NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3070 (95W) is the winner but its lead isn’t too significant when compared to the 85W GPU. This leads us to the point where both GPUs are faster enough to beat previous-gen monsters like the GeForce RTX 2080 Super Max-Q.

This is great news for all of us because the overall performance is increased and the TGP levels are decreased. Lower power consumption and higher performance – this is exactly what the mobile world needs the most.
