How to open Acer Predator Helios Neo 18 (PHN18-71) – disassembly and upgrade options


Step 1: Opening the Acer Predator Helios Neo 18 (PHN18-71)

  1. Power off the laptop and place it on a soft surface to avoid scratches.
  2. Remove the 13 Torx-head screws from the bottom panel.
  3. Carefully lift the rear side by holding the two plastic exhaust vents. Ensure not to apply excessive force to avoid damage.
  4. Use a plastic pry tool to gently separate the rest of the panel, starting from the Ethernet connector area and moving towards the front.


Step 2: Battery Removal

  1. Disconnect the battery by unplugging its connector from the motherboard.
  2. Remove the 2 Phillips-head screws and lift the 90.61Wh battery out of its chassis.

Memory Upgrade

  1. Access the RAM zone by removing the metal plate, which is secured by two central screws from the bottom panel. Use a lever tool if necessary.
  2. While officially supporting up to 32GB of DDR5-5600MHz RAM, the CPU’s capability to handle up to 192GB suggests the potential for greater memory configurations.

Cooling System Overview

  1. The laptop features an extensive cooling solution with two different types of fans: a plastic one for the CPU and a metal Aeroblade 3D fan for the GPU.
