How to open ASUS Chromebook Flip CX5 (CX5400) – disassembly and upgrade options
Opening the Device
- Undo the 10 Phillips-head screws securing the bottom panel.
- Pry the sides and the front. Be aware that the panel goes deep into the chassis, so you may need to push harder than usual to pop it. Use caution to avoid bending the chassis, especially if your plastic tool isn’t thin enough.
- Pop the back by lifting it in the zones behind the hinges with a lever tool.
- Afterward, pry the top edges and the rest of the rear.
- You can unplug the stylus, but it’s not necessary for this process.

Battery Removal
- Unplug the battery connector from the mainboard.
- Undo the 2 Phillips-head screws securing the battery.
- Lift the battery to remove it from the device.
Note: The notebook uses a 48Wh battery.
Memory Information
Note: The memory is soldered, with configurations available for 8GB or 16GB of LPDDR4x RAM.
Storage Upgrade
- Locate the single M.2 slot compatible with 2280 Gen 3 SSDs.
- Remove the preinstalled SSD, if any, and the thermal pad beneath it, if present.
- Install the new SSD in the slot.
