How to Open Dell XPS 13 9340 – disassembly and upgrade options


Opening the Device

  1. Undo the 6 Torx-head screws securing the bottom panel.
  2. Lift the bottom panel with a lever tool in the hinge zone near the top two corners.
  3. Do not fully pry the back yet because the central part of the vent on the rear is connected to the bottom plate.
  4. Press the chassis on the left or right with a finger and pop the mid-section of the metal plate.
  5. Pry the sides and the front with a thin plastic tool to remove the bottom panel.

Battery Removal

  1. Undo the single Phillips-head screw securing the bracket on top of the battery connector.
  2. Slide the bracket to the left and lift it away from the chassis. Use gloves to avoid short circuits.
  3. Disconnect the battery connector from the motherboard.
  4. Undo the 6 Phillips-head screws securing the battery.
  5. Lift the battery to remove it from the device.

Note: The device uses a 55Wh battery, providing approximately 17 hours of web browsing or 20 hours of video playback.


Memory Information

Note: The memory is soldered. The device supports up to 64GB of LPDDR5x-7467MHz RAM in dual-channel mode.

Storage Upgrade

  1. Locate the single M.2 slot for 2230 or 2280 Gen 4 SSDs.
  2. Undo the single Phillips-head screw securing the metal plate covering the NVMe SSD.
  3. Slide the metal plate to the left and remove it, revealing the thermal pads.
  4. Install the new SSD in the slot.

  1. The cooling system includes two fans, one thick heat pipe, two heat sinks, and a heat spreader.
  2. Ensure all cooling components are clean and free of dust for optimal performance.
