How to open HP OMEN Transcend 16 (16-u0000) – disassembly and upgrade options


    Opening the Device

    1. Undo the 6 Phillips-head screws on the bottom panel.
    2. Insert a thin plastic tool horizontally between the main body and the bottom plate, starting from either the back or the front.
    3. Pop the sides to release the bottom panel.

    Battery Removal

    1. Unplug the battery connector from the mainboard.
    2. Undo the 6 Phillips-head screws securing the battery to the chassis.
    3. One of the screws has a rubber cap on top, which needs to be unglued before removal.

    Note: This model is equipped with an optional 97Wh battery, providing around 10 hours and 30 minutes of video playback. The default model comes with a 70Wh battery.


    Memory Information

    Note: The two SODIMMs support up to 32GB of DDR5-5600 MHz RAM in dual-channel mode. The CPU can handle up to 192GB of memory, making it capable of supporting a larger memory amount than the official manufacturer’s limit.


    Storage Upgrade

    1. This device has one M.2 slot compatible with 2280 Gen 4 SSDs.
    2. The NVMe drive is covered with a metal cap secured by two screws. After removing the screws, lift the shroud to reveal the thermal pad inside for cooling.

    Cooling System Overview

    1. The cooling system consists of two sizable fans, two long heat pipes shared between the CPU and GPU, and one dedicated pipe for each chip.
    2. It includes four heat sinks and two well-sized cooling plates. The left plate also cools the chipset, adding an extra layer of thermal management.
