How to open Lenovo IdeaPad Slim 3 16″ (Gen 9, 16IRU9) – disassembly and upgrade options

    1. Undo the 10 Phillips-head screws on the bottom panel.
    2. Insert a thin plastic tool in the top two corners and begin popping the sides and front.
    3. Once done, pry the back to fully detach the panel.

    Battery Removal

    1. The 47Wh battery is secured with two Phillips-head screws. Undo them to detach the unit.
    2. Pull out the connector from the motherboard to fully remove the battery.

    Note: This battery offers around 8 hours of video playback.


    Memory and Storage

    • Unfortunately, the DDR5-5200MHz RAM is soldered. You can configure it with 8GB (single-channel) or 16GB (dual-channel) memory.
    • There is one M.2 slot compatible with 2242 Gen 4 SSDs, located just below the replaceable Wi-Fi card.
    • The preinstalled NVMe drive is cooled by a thermal pad located below the SSD.


    Cooling System

    • The cooling system is suitable for the laptop’s 15W CPU. It features a single fan, a long heat pipe, a top-mounted heat sink, and a heat spreader.

    The Lenovo IdeaPad Slim 3 16" Gen 9 is a typical non-expensive device for normal home or office work. It relies on Raptor Lake-U Refresh CPUs which are almost virtually the same as their 13th gen siblings aside from the slightly bumped clocks. The port selection is acceptable while the upgradability isn't. Still, you can change the SSD or replace the WiFi 6 card. This Lenovo series is designed for general use, not gaming, so it doesn't have dedicated graphics card options.
