How to open MSI Vector 17 HX A13V – disassembly and upgrade options

Opening the Device

  1. Undo the 13 Phillips-head screws securing the bottom panel.
  2. Turn over the device and pry all the sides of the hinge cover with a thin plastic tool.
  3. Open the lid and pop the front side of the cap, then lift away the shield from the base.
  4. Pry the rear of the device step by step by inserting the tool between the plate and the chassis.
  5. Open the lid again and pry the right and front sides through the base.
  6. Flip the notebook upside down. Since the Audio jack sticks out of the motherboard, you can’t lift the whole bottom plate straight upwards. Instead, raise the panel on the left and carefully slide it to the right side.

Battery Removal

  1. Detach the battery connector from the motherboard.
  2. Undo the 6 Phillips-head screws securing the battery.
  3. Lift the battery to remove it from the device.

Note: The laptop uses a 90Wh battery, providing approximately 4 hours of video playback.

Memory Information

  1. The memory area is covered by a metal cap, which can be popped with a lever tool. Be cautious, as the cap is glued to the plastic housings of the memory slots, so don’t push too hard.
  2. According to MSI, the two SODIMMs support up to 64GB of DDR5-5600MHz RAM in dual-channel mode, but since the CPU can handle up to 192GB, the laptop likely wouldn’t have issues running more than the official manufacturer’s specified limit.

Cooling System Overview

  1. The Cooler Boost 5 thermal system is massive, featuring two fans and three thick heat pipes shared between the CPU and GPU.
  2. There is an additional heat pipe for the processor and two more for the graphics card’s VRMs and memory modules.
  3. The system also includes four large heat sinks, a heat spreader for the CPU, and a large metal plate for the video card. The lower heat pipe and chipset are connected via foil.
