To begin with, this year the Galaxy S8 will be announced later than usual. It’s expected to be revealed on March 29. Samsung will delay the release to make sure everything will go according to plan. Some time ago we showed you Samsung’s intention to use an 8-Point Battery Safety Check, which will postpone the release of the S8.
Performance-wise, Galaxy S8 would either have the Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 or Exynos 8895 from Samsung. The Snapdragon 835 will be based on a 10nm process and will have 8 Kryo 280 cores known from last year’s Snapdragon 820. The cores will be divided on two 4-core clusters. Also, the devices will have two sets of L2 cache with capacity of 2.4 and 1.2 MB. Qualcomm claims that the new flagship with their chip will be with up to 20% more effective and 11% faster than the Galaxy S7. As far as RAM is concerned, some sources say 6GB of RAM and others claim 4GB, like it was last year. The flagship will have two capacity options – one with 64 GB and another with 256 GB. The GPU of the Snapdragon model will be Adreno 540, which is optimized for VR.
It’s known for the model which will come with Exynos 8895 that it’s based on 10nm process, too. It’s really impressive that the processor is expected to have a very high frequency – 3 GHz, and low usage of energy – 5W.
One of the biggest changes of the Samsung Galaxy S8 will be the screen. According to some rumors, the model will have two versions – with 5.7/5.8 and with 6.2-inch display. The display is expected to occupy more than 80% of the front panel of the smartphone. Both versions will be with curved display and the resolution will vary between QHD and 4K. Recently there’s been some information that we can expect resolution of 1440 x 2960 pixels (18:5:9 ratio).
One of the rumors that everyone agrees is that Samsung will remove the home button from the S8. The fingerprint sensor is expected to be on the back of the smartphone, unlike what old rumors claimed that it will be integrated in the screen.
This year Samsung will upgrade the successful last year’s camera. The company wants to improve the quality of the photos taken in daylight and in low light. Additionally, the technology of ultra fast focus called Dual Pixel will be used, too. Some of the rumors say that the bigger S8 will have two cameras just like the iPhone 7 Plus. Probably the sensors will be between 12 and 16 megapixels. It’s expected that Note 7’s biometric sensor will be used in S8. The capacaity of the battery is expected to be 3500 mAh.
Rumor has it that the S8 will come with its own assistant, possibly called “Bixby” and powered by Viv Labs, which was acquired by Samsung in October. Another interesting technology called DeX is expected to be used. With Dex, customers can use their smartphone as an personal computer.
There are different rumors about the price of the devices. Some say that the price will be 799 and 899 Euro but other claim that the price will be between $649 and $749.
