[Comparison] Acer Swift 3 SF313-52 (2020) vs Acer Swift 3 SF313-51 (2019) – a 3:2 display and Ice Lake power for the new one
The Acer Swift lineup provides affordable devices with decent hardware inside. As for an example, the Acer Swift 3 (SF313-51) is still a good notebook with powerful Kaby Lake R CPUs, a lightweight body, and an IPS screen. Well, Acer has revealed the next one – the Acer Swift 3 (SF313-52 / SF313-52G). It has a new screen, new design, and new CPU options. At least on paper, it’s like a good upgrade over 2019 one.
Let’s compare both notebooks.

Design: a bit of a premium look
The new Acer Swift 3 (SF313-52) looks a bit more premium than last year’s model. Maybe because the keycaps have a silver finish rather than the traditional dark caps of the 2019 variant. Combined with the silver body color and the metal chassis, and we have a great looking device. It’s also lighter than the 2019 variant – just 1.18 kg (vs 1.35kg), while the profile is the same – 15.95mm.

Display: 3:2 aspect ratio
The display is an IPS panel with a 3:2 aspect ratio and 2K resolution (2,256 x 1,504). The 3:2 aspect ratio is very comfortable for Web browsing, reading or typing. You will have 18% more vertical screen height – bigger screen space is always welcome. That leads to 83.65% screen-to-body ratio combined with thin bezels. The panel covers 100% of the sRGB color space – people with color-sensitive jobs will appreciate that. The 2019 model features a standard 16:9 panel.
Hardware: Project Athena certification and Ice Lake processors
The new Swift model is a Project Athena certified device – you can expect fast boot times, as well as long battery life (up to 16 hours, according to Acer), fast charging (a 30-minute charge will provide battery life for up to 4 hours of usage). The top-end CPU option is the Core i7-1065G7 with the powerful Intel Iris G7 graphics. If you don’t need so much power, you can pick a device with i5-1035G4/G1, or i3-1005G1.
The CPU and the iGPU are boosted because of the fast LPDDR4X memory – faster memory leads to faster iGPU performance. Swift 3 (SF313-51) has Kaby Lake Refresh CPUs with Intel UHD 620 graphics. The SF313-52G variant can be configured with dedicated NVIDIA graphics but the exact GPU models are still unclear. We guess that it will be GeForce MX330 / MX350.
Connectivity and I/O: Wi-Fi 6 on board
Wi-Fi 6 is a standard option, as well as Bluetooth 5.0. The fingerprint reader is available as well as one USB 3.1 Gen 2 (Type-C) with Thunderbolt 3 support, one USB 3.1 Gen 1 (Type-A), and a USB 2.0 port.
Other specs: Illuminated keyboard
The Illuminated keyboard will bring “light” in a dimmed room or if you use the device at night. The bigger TouchPad is a nice upgrade too.
