Dell Latitude 14 5431 – Top 5 Pros and Cons
There are largely two types of business machines: either a thin and snappy machine that’s easy to carry and can instantly be put to work anywhere, or a bulky laptop for when you need as much performance as possible to crunch through equations or go through scenes in a video edit. The Laitutde 14 5431 fulfills the latter purpose, offering a powerful Core i7-1270P. While you might be thinking that the CPU isn’t going to be enough, we’re here to say that you might be in for a fun ride, as with good cooling, the chips can tear through anything while remaining more efficient that their H-series counterparts.
Today we’re giving you a quick overview of the Dell Latitude 14 5431.
Dell Latitude 14 5431: Full Specs / In-depth Review
4 reasons to BUY the Dell Latitude 14 5431
1. I/O
The port selection of the Latitude 14 includes two USB Type-A 3.2 (Gen. 1) ports, one of which works even when the laptop is off, two Thunderbolt 4 ports, an HDMI 2.0 port, a MicroSD card reader, a LAN port, a 3.5 mm audio jack. Some optional ports include a MicroSIM card slot as well as a SmartCard reader.
2. Upgradeability
The slots continue on the inside as well, as the laptop includes plenty of upgradeability options. The RAM is accessible and can be expanded through two SODIMM slots, which fit up to 64GB of DDR5 memory. For storage, there’s only one M.2 slot, which does support Gen 4 SSDs.
Here’s our teardown video, which shows how to access both the RAM and SSD slots.
3. Battery life
The 64Wh battery pack lasted for way longer than we expected, enduring up to 13 hours of 20 minutes of Web browsing, or 9 hours and 5 minutes of video playback. Now, we conduct the battery tests with the Windows Better performance setting turned on, screen brightness adjusted to 120 nits and all other programs turned off except for the one we are testing the notebook with.
4. Cooling
And looking at how the Core i7-1270P performs in the stress test, you can see that the performance is here too. This is the best-performing laptop with this processor, spiking up to 50W in the first few seconds, and maintaining 48W in the next 30 seconds, which is more than enough for most workloads. In the long run, the chip runs comfortably at 30W, while not getting hot.

Comfort during full load
Under full load, the laptop remains quiet and comfortable, as the base doesn’t heat up at all, with a max temperature of only 42°C.
1 reason NOT to buy the Dell Latitude 14 5431
1. Display quality
All would be well and good if it wasn’t for the Full HD IPS panel. The unit that we have here has good viewing angles and an adequate contrast ratio, however, the brightness is very low, maxing out at 235 nits. It also only covers half of the sRGB color gamut. If you don’t plan to do any Creator or Color-sensitive work on it, it will get the job done, but the low brightness might bug you slightly. Thankfully, there are other Full HD IPS displays available, which do have higher coverage and brightness.
The accuracy of the panel is non-existent as well, with a stock dE value of 6.2 (left). Applying our Design and Gaming profile doesn’t help much, lowering it only to 4.5 (right).

Office Work
Office Work should be used mostly by users who spend most of the time looking at pieces of text, tables or just surfing. This profile aims to deliver better distinctness and clarity by keeping a flat gamma curve (2.20), native color temperature and perceptually accurate colors.
Design and Gaming
This profile is aimed at designers who work with colors professionally, and for games and movies as well. Design and Gaming takes display panels to their limits, making them as accurate as possible in the sRGB IEC61966-2-1 standard for Web and HDTV, at white point D65.
Health-Guard
Health-Guard eliminates the harmful Pulse-Width Modulation (PWM) and reduces the negative Blue Light which affects our eyes and body. Since it’s custom tailored for every panel, it manages to keep the colors perceptually accurate. Health-Guard simulates paper so the pressure on the eyes is greatly reduced.
