Dell Vostro 15 3510 – Top 5 Pros and Cons

Dell’s Vostro brand generally puts out quality devices for a good price. Their low-end Vostro 15 3510 can be equipped with decently-powerful hardware, including a Core i7-1165G7 and a dedicated graphics card, which here is an MX350 from NVIDIA.

Your GPU choice is important since it also affects the I/O. Lastly, in terms of displays, the base configuration comes with a 768p TN panel, which is inexcusable in 2022. Thankfully, there’s also a Full HD IPS panel, which we managed to test.

Today we are presenting you with LaptopMedia’s top 5 picks about the Dell Vostro 15 3510.

Dell Vostro 15 3510: Full Specs / In-depth Review

3 reasons to BUY the Dell Vostro 15 3510

1. Input devices

The keyboard here is one of the better features of the notebook, bringing decent key travel and clicky feedback. Pair that with a NumPad, well-sized keycaps, and a backlight, and you get a more than suitable unit for typing and general use. The touchpad has good size, along with a smooth cover and accurate tracking.

2. I/O

If you get the discrete GPU option, there are two USB Type-A ports, with one running at 2.0 speeds, while the other is a 3.2 (Gen. 1) port, a single USB Type-C 3.2 (Gen. 1) port, an HDMI 1.4 connector, an SD card reader, a LAN port, and a 3.5 mm audio jack. If you pick a model with an integrated GPU, the Type-C port gets swapped for a Type-A port of the same generation and speeds.

3. Upgradeability

For upgradeability, there are two SODIMM RAM slots and a single M.2 PCIe x4 drive slot. Depending on what battery pack you pick you can get enough space freed on the inside to fit a 2.5-inch SSD.

Here is our detailed teardown video, which shows how to access both the RAM and storage slots.

2 reasons NOT to buy the Dell Vostro 15 3510

1. Design and build quality

Unsurprisingly, the laptop is entirely made out of plastic and while we definitely have seen rigid and durable plastic laptops, this Dell definitely isn’t one of them. Both the lid and the base a bendy, so keep in mind where you keep your laptop and invest in a good laptop bag, which you should generally do, regardless of what laptop you’re using. On the flip side, the laptop has been made decently light, sporting a weight of 1.69 kg and a profile of 18.9 mm. The lid also doesn’t open with a single hand. However, it does feature a lever mechanism, so you’ll get better airflow and the keyboard will sit at an angle, improving the typing experience.

2. Display quality

The 15.6-inch Full HD IPS panel comes with excellent viewing angles, a max brightness of 261 nits in the middle of the screen, and 259 nits as an average for the whole area, with a maximum deviation of 5%. The contrast ratio is also decent at 1100:1. The color coverage is poor at 51% sRGB coverage, while the accuracy is poor as well, regardless of whether you apply our Design and Gaming profile or not. One area where our profile is helpful is with the aggressive PWM that the panel uses, with our Health-Guard profile eliminating the issue completely.

Here are the results of our color accuracy test, with both the stock settings (left) and with our Design and Gaming profile applied (right).

Office Work

Office Work should be used mostly by users who spend most of the time looking at pieces of text, tables or just surfing. This profile aims to deliver better distinctness and clarity by keeping a flat gamma curve (2.20), native color temperature and perceptually accurate colors.

Design and Gaming

This profile is aimed at designers who work with colors professionally, and for games and movies as well. Design and Gaming takes display panels to their limits, making them as accurate as possible in the sRGB IEC61966-2-1 standard for Web and HDTV, at white point D65.

Health-Guard

Health-Guard eliminates the harmful Pulse-Width Modulation (PWM) and reduces the negative Blue Light which affects our eyes and body. Since it’s custom tailored for every panel, it manages to keep the colors perceptually accurate. Health-Guard simulates paper so the pressure on the eyes is greatly reduced.
