GeForce GTX 1060 preview – a mid-range GPU matching GTX 980’s performance
The first Pascal architecture GPU GeForce GTX 1060 is now available on the market. We’ve already tested GTX 1070 and GTX 1080 we can’t wait to lay our hands on the third model. You may remember our reviews of the higher-end models and today we would like to present this short preview of the most powerful mid-range GPU – GeForce GTX 1060.

High performance at low price
Even though GeForce GTX 1080 bears the title of “The most powerful single-chip GPU on the market”, GeForce GTX 1060 is a very good choice if you want to play games at high settings and Full HD resolution. Additionally, this graphics card is a successor to GeForce GX 960, and according to the manufacturer, this Pascal chip is twice as powerful in games. When it comes to VR, GTX 1060’s performance is three times more powerful than its successor.
We have the habit of comparing GPUs from different price ranges. GeForce GTX 1060 is a mid-ranger, which does not mean it’s mediocre. The graphics card is on the same level as GeForce GTX 980, and we can’t wait to compare the two so as to confirm this statement. Despite this, the price of the newer model is $299 for a Founders Edition version, which is much cheaper than GeForce GTX 980 (back when it was released). Additionally, power consumption has also been decreased, which is an advantage for customers who want an energy-efficient and powerful GPU – the chip needs 120 Watts for normal operation. In other words, a real 400 Watt PSU will be more than enough for GeForce GTX 1060.
New design and technologies
NVIDIA called their new referent cooler Founders Edition. It offers great design, high quality and most importantly – low temperatures when compared to the previous reference cooler. Apart from this improvement, the American company has also included several new technologies that increase the chip’s performance in the virtual world, and not only there. Ansel, for example, is one of the newly announced technologies that gives you the chance to take 360-degree shots, as well as the ability to capture a scene from various perspectives. You can learn more about it in the reviews of the above-listed GPUs. Another two such innovations are VRWorks Audio and Simultaneous Multi-Projection.
