Lenovo IdeaPad 5 Pro (14″, 2022): Full Specs / In-depth Review

3 reasons to BUY the Lenovo IdeaPad 5 Pro (14″, 2022)

1. Design and build quality

The laptop comes with a stylish exterior, that’s entirely made from metal. This leaves a premium finish that’s cool to the touch, as well as plenty of durability, with a rigid base and a lid that’s not so easy to bend. Depending on how you configure the device, either with an integrated or a discrete GPU and with or without a touchscreen, the weight can fluctuate between 1.42 kg and 1.52 kg, while retaining a thickness of 15.9 mm regardless of configurations.

The base houses a keyboard with pretty long key travel and clicky feedback, as well as a pair of front-firing speakers with Dolby Atmos. The power button can be equipped with a fingerprint reader, but you have to pay for it. The touchpad is covered in Mylar and is incredibly snappy when paired with the 90Hz display.

2. I/O

The port selection of the IdeaPad 5 Pro includes two USB Type-A 3.2 (Gen. 1) ports, two USB Type-C 3.2 (Gen. 1) ports, an HDMI 2.0 port, a 3.5 mm audio jack, and a MicroSD card reader.

3. Display quality

The 2.8K IPS display comes with a 90Hz refresh rate, a peak brightness of 479 nits and a very high contrast ratio of 1490:1. It covers 97% of the sRGB color gamut, and great color accuracy when using our Design and Gaming profile.

With it, we get a dE value of 1.7, which is quite an improvement from 4.7 with the factory settings. Here are the results of our test with the stock settings (left) and with our profile applied (right).

Buy our profiles

In addition to receiving efficient and health-friendly profiles, by buying LaptopMedia's products you also support the development of our labs, where we test devices in order to produce the most objective reviews possible.

Office Work

Office Work should be used mostly by users who spend most of the time looking at pieces of text, tables or just surfing. This profile aims to deliver better distinctness and clarity by keeping a flat gamma curve (2.20), native color temperature and perceptually accurate colors.

Design and Gaming

This profile is aimed at designers who work with colors professionally, and for games and movies as well. Design and Gaming takes display panels to their limits, making them as accurate as possible in the sRGB IEC61966-2-1 standard for Web and HDTV, at white point D65.

Health-Guard

Health-Guard eliminates the harmful Pulse-Width Modulation (PWM) and reduces the negative Blue Light which affects our eyes and body. Since it’s custom tailored for every panel, it manages to keep the colors perceptually accurate. Health-Guard simulates paper so the pressure on the eyes is greatly reduced.

2 reasons NOT to buy the Lenovo IdeaPad 5 Pro (14″, 2022)

1. Upgradeability

Sadly, the RAM is soldered onto the motherboard, which is to be expected with a smaller 14-inch chassis. You get up to 16GB of LPDDR5, as well as one M.2 slot for Gen 4 SSDs.

Here is our teardown video, which shows how to upgrade and get inside the Lenovo IdeaPad 5 Pro (14″, 2022).

2. Battery life

With a 56.5Wh battery pack and a Core i5-1240P, we imagined that battery life would be good, if not great. What we get is 6 hours and 5 minutes of Web browsing, or 6 hours flat of video playback, which won’t last you for a whole day of use. Thankfully, the 100W Type-C power adapter is relatively small so it won’t be a hassle to carry it around.
