Lenovo Sets High Expectations for 2025: An Exclusive Interview with Steve Long

As part of Lenovo’s anniversary celebrations, LaptopMedia had the honor of speaking with Steve Long, Senior Vice President, leading the Global Commercial Business, to gain unique insights into Lenovo’s journey throughout 2024 and its plans for the coming year.

This interview arrives at a perfect moment for our platform, as we’ve recently launched our new Market Analysis segment, where we thoroughly examine global laptop sales data across nine major markets.

Our global analysis shows Lenovo’s impressive achievements: not only does the brand feature the most models within the Top 1000 best-selling laptops on Amazon worldwide, but it’s also the only manufacturer with over 20% global market share in units sold.

    Key Highlights

    – Steve Long reflects on Lenovo’s milestones and future aspirations: “2024 was a great year for Lenovo, but 2025 will be even better.”

    – AI integration and the end of Windows 10 support will drive market demand: “We anticipate the demand for laptops to significantly increase in 2025.”

    – Lenovo aims to create an end-to-end ecosystem for customers: “Our focus will be the advancement of AI-enabled devices.”

    1. How was 2024 for Lenovo as a company?

“We’ve reached several milestones in 2024, including releasing the largest selection of AIPCs in the market, unveiling the Lenovo Aura Edition PCs, showcased our leadership in innovation through Lenovo Innovation World and Lenovo Tech World, cemented our partnership with F1 and became the official technology partner of FIFA.

In addition, while we maintained our #1 market share position, we also wowed the world with the first ThinkBook Transparent Display Laptop Concept and the Auto Twist AI PC Concept, introduced the Aura Experience imagined with Intel and more.

2024 was a great year for Lenovo, but 2025 will be even better.”

    2. With AI integration in laptops, do you expect demand to increase in 2025?

“We anticipate the demand for laptops to significantly increase in 2025 due to several key factors, including the integration of more personalized, productive, and protected AI capabilities.

Customers are seeing the benefits of AI and understand the need to both refresh their fleet to maximize its potential and future proof their workflows.

Other aspects that will affect the demand of laptops include the end of Windows 10 support, which will prompt an upgrade cycle, particularly for commercial users and organizations.”

    3. What are Lenovo’s plans for 2025, and where will the company’s focus lie?

“Our focus will be the advancement of AI-enabled devices as we are moving into experiences that will lead to bigger and broader customer outcomes.

Most customers will have a broader choice across architectures or components but an increasing focus will lie around a complete end-to-end ecosystem for customers to accelerate adoption of AI technology with the support of dedicated services and software to help them on their path.

We have amazing devices with all-day battery life and outstanding performance, and great new AI experiences to leverage the hardware. What will make the difference for customers is how devices, solutions and services can transform or improve outcomes.”

    4. Next year, NVIDIA is expected to enter the processor market, following Qualcomm’s boom this year. Will the increased competition lead to more affordable laptops?

“Anytime a major player enters a market, it has the potential to disrupt.

In the tech industry like many other industries, competition is healthy and good for customers. It encourages innovation through increased competition, which could lead to price adjustments.

We are always looking to provide the best solutions to our customers and the ability to give them more options can be exciting.”

    5. Lenovo introduced its Aura Edition line of AI-powered computers. While the software platform offers numerous new functionalities, are they widely adopted by users, and are end customers ready to fully embrace them? If so, do you plan to further develop the software in this direction, and can you share any insights into the next steps?

“The Lenovo Aura Edition PCs are the pinnacle of a multi-year effort where Lenovo and Intel looked at the market and asked, what do people want out of an experience.

Lenovo Aura Edition AI PCs have only been in market a matter of months, but already customers have embraced the new functionalities because they are solutions they’ve asked us to deliver.

For customers who desire an easy way to share files, we have Smart Share; for customers who want peace of mind and support, we have Smart Care; and for those who are not so technically savvy or just want the PC to work the way they want it to work, we have Smart Modes.

The Lenovo Aura Edition PCs are experience oriented devices and that is where AI PC is going. As a leading technology company focused on customer-centric innovation, we continue to listen to our customers and we aim to further improve the features and experiences of all our devices to maximize their experience, including our Aura Edition AI PCs.”
