Microsoft Lumia 650 preview – a Windows 10 handset from the mid-range segment featuring a thin profile and a metal frame
Last month, Microsoft officially announced its new addition to the mid-range segment of the market – Lumia 650. Since then the phone has been released on most markets so we thought it’s a good idea to do a preview and see what’s all the fuss about.
You can find information about the price and availability of Lumia 650 at the following link: http://amzn.to/1S18OxA
Stylish design, thin profile and 5-inch HD screen
Even though Lumia 650 belongs to the mid-range, the phone’s construction is very stylish. The whole body is wraped by a metal frame, measures at 6.9 mm thickness and weighs jsut 122 grams. Keeping this in mind, we could assume that it is comfortable to hold and use with one hand.
Anyway, the device boasts a 5-inch screen using an OLED panel and features the ClearBlack technology. The resolution of the screen is HD (720×1280) resulting in pixel density of 297 ppi. One of the features that Microsoft highlights about the display is that it’s easy to use under direct sunlight and offers wide viewing angles. We should also note that there’s a Gorilla Glass 3 protection as well.
Quad-core Snapdragon 212 and 2000mAh battery
Lumia 650 also carries Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 212 SoC with four Cortex-A7 cores clocked at 1.3 GHz and integrates the Adreno 304 GPU. There’s also 1GB of RAM available – enough to provide a pleasant user experience, considering the well-optimized Windows 10 OS. The internal storage is 16GB but you can always plug in a microSD memory card if you need to.
The battery of the phone has 2000 mAh capacity and even though this doesn’t sound very impressive, Microsoft claims that it should be able to provide up to 26 hours in standby mode and up to 16 hours of phone calls. However, if you get yourself in a situation where you don’t have a lot of remaining battery charge, but desperately need it, you can always activate the battery saver mode.
8MP camera and Windows 10
The main camera of Lumia 650 has an 8MP sensor with a f/2.2 aperture, LED flash and autofocus. The camera also supports video recording in HD and packs a lot of manual settings like white balance, ISO, etc.
As we already mentioned, the phone operates on Windows 10 and with it you’ll get tons of features and pre-installed apps including Wallet, OneNote, Phonebook, Calculator, To-do list, Family room, File manager, Kid’s Corner, Skype, Adobe reader, Microsoft Office and many others. Oh, we almost forgot to note, that Cortana and Microsoft Edge are also present.
