Design
ASUS is introducing a brand-new chassis for its two laptops. Made largely from metal, it has some plastic accents on the back, mainly the ROG shroud which can be customized through ASUS’ website. The design features thinner bezels all around, as the display stretches further down. The lid has a lot of details as well, with a light-up RGB logo, and a diagonal stripe with the letters ROG repeating along it. For lighting, there’s an RGB strip on the bottom panel, giving you some nice ambient backlighting so you’re fully in the zone when gaming. All RGB on the devices can be controlled with AuraSync inside the Armory Crate. In terms of weight and height, the G16 comes in at 2.50 kg, while the G18 goes as high as 3.00 kg. However, both are pretty much the same in terms of thickness, with 30.4 mm for the G16 and 30.8 mm for the G18. While the G16 also doesn’t have a NumPad on its keyboard, the touchpad can act as one, as ASUS implements their NumberPad tech.
Display
Both devices bring 16:10 displays with 240Hz refresh rate, 500 nits of brightness, and a QHD+ resolution. The display is Creator-ready, with 100% DCI-P3 coverage as well as a Pantone validation for accuracy. With a 3ms response time and that refresh rate, there’s nothing stopping you from being the best and whatever game you want to play. The panel comes with G-Sync support and Dolby Vision HDR for the best possible viewing experience.
Specifications and features
The two laptops are very powerful, with the Core i9-13980HX a 24-core, 32-thread CPU, a 55W base TDP, and a boost speed of 5.60 GHz. What Intel has done is double the amount the efficiency cores from 8 to 16, which will overall boost performance massively. In terms of graphics, the selection goes as high as the RTX 4080 with a 175W power limit.
The port selection is identical on both models, with two USB Type-A 3.2 (Gen. 2) ports, one USB Type-C 3.2 (Gen. 2) port, one Thunderbolt 4 port, a LAN port, and a 3.5 mm audio jack.
ASUS uses its Intelligent Cooling on the two laptops, with Thermal Grizzly’s liquid metal compound, 3 fans, and 7 heat pipes.
