Design

This is by far the most gaming-oriented laptop, purely from the design. There’s RGB on the bottom panel and on the back, behind the lid, in the form of a strip, while the ROG logo on the back lights up as well. The edges and overall appearance are sharp. As for materials, ASUS is incredibly secretive, but last year’s SCAR laptops did use metal for the lid and parts of the base, as well as on the bottom panel. What’s more interesting, is the transparent portion that was here in previous years is now gone. We also see a webcam find its way, which was dearly missed.

Display

Both laptops have a ROG Nebula HDR Display, with a QHD+ resolution, 240Hz refresh rate, G-Sync, Adaptive-Sync, 500 nits of brightness, and 100% DCI-P3 coverage. The display is Pantone validates, so you can do all types of color-sensitive work, including video editing and color grading.

Specifications and features

The Core i9-13980HX is the sole chip that’s available here, with 24 cores and 32 threads, 36MB of cache, and a 55W base TDP. For graphics, you can choose between the RTX 4080 and RTX 4090, both with a 175W TGP. All ROG laptops in 2023 come with a MUX switch and NVIDIA Advanced Optimus, which can automatically switch between discrete and integrated graphics, in order to squeeze out as much power as possible from the RTX graphics. While the SCAR 16 doesn’t have a NumPad beside the keyboard, its touchpad can act as one, showing the numbers, math signs, and the Enter and Backspace keys.
