[Specs and Info] Lenovo IdeaPad Creator 5 (16) – if it has “Creator” in its name, it better be good

We don’t exactly know who started it, but many smartphones and some laptops add new words to their names, mainly “Pro”, “Creator”, or “Gaming”. Most of the time, the words aren’t used properly. How many phones have you seen with the word “Pro” in their name? They are countless examples nowadays and most of them are just a basic smartphone with, let’s say, one more lens on the back.

The general misuse hasn’t reached the laptop market, and thank God for that. Let the name mean something and accurately represent the device. Today we will look at one such device, which has the word “Creator” in its name. The Lenovo IdeaPad Creator 5 (16) is the latest device from the Chinese brand, which focuses on giving you a platform that you can express your ideas, regardless of the way you do it. With Zen 3 performance and a color-accurate high-resolution screen, it has a lot going for it. Let’s hope its price is in the justifiable range because if it is, it can make it one of the best pickups of the year.

Today we are doing a quick look at the Lenovo IdeaPad Creator 5 (16).

Lenovo IdeaPad Creator 5 (16): Full Specs

Design

In terms of design, the new laptop greatly outshines the older one. The previous IdeaPad Creator used the same body as the IdeaPad Gaming, which was made entirely from plastic. The new laptop uses anodized aluminum for the whole body, which makes it super sturdy and resistant to flex. The aluminum also gives it a cool-to-the-touch feeling which further emphasizes the premium build quality. The design is also improved, with Lenovo choosing not to plaster their name across the entire device. The device is also improved when it comes to its size and weight, weighing nearly 300 grams less and being around 0.5 cm thinner, which is very noticeable when carrying the laptop everywhere.

Display

The display is great on the device, at least on paper. It has a size of 16-inches and a WQHD+ resolution, meaning a 16:10 aspect ratio, which is getting increasingly more popular in the productivity and creativity market. The panel has a maximum brightness of 350 nits and a pretty high contrast ratio of 1200:1. According to Lenovo, the display covers 100% of the sRGB color gamut, which makes the device ideal for artists and creators, thus the name. The viewing angles sit at a very comfortable 170°.

Specifications and features

The specs are nothing to look down on, as the Ryzen 5000-series CPUs are great performance, and you can see them in some of the most powerful gaming laptops. The top choice of the Ryzen 7 5800H, which currently sits at #4 in our Top Laptop CPU Ranking, has an abundance of power and can handle any type of rendering without breaking a sweat. The laptop also comes with the GTX 1650 (Laptop), which might not be the hottest GPU right now, but what it does offer is reliable performance both when productivity and encoding are concerned, as well as giving you the option to relax and play your favorite game while taking a break.

Being a creator-focused device, the machine is packed with features. It has a backlit keyboard, stereo speakers, with support for Dolby Atmos. The touchpad has the classic Lenovo Mylar surface, which ensures smooth gliding and accurate tracking across the entirety of the touchpad. It also supports PTP (Precision TouchPad). I/O-wise, you get a total of three USB ports (two Type-A 3.2 Gen.1 and one Type-C 3.2 Gen.2 with Power Delivery and DisplayPort capability), a microSD card reader, and HDMI connector, as well as a 3.5mm audio jack.
