While the MSI Titan truly brings the best in terms of performance, it’s not that practical to move around.

It is also quite expensive, so if you still need a more “standard” gaming laptop with high performance, MSI offers their GE Raider series, which still harnesses the powerful Raptor Lake HX processors and RTX 40-series graphics, however, it’s noticeably smaller and lighter.

The Raider also comes with a 16:10 aspect ratio, so you can scratch that productivity and Creator itch.

Today we’re giving you a quick overview of the MSI Raider GE68 HX (13Vx) and the Raider GE78 HX (13Vx).

Design

Raider laptops get a redesign for 2023, which focuses on the gamer aesthetic even more than before. Of course, there’s still an RGB strip on the front, while the back has plastic accents in red and gold. It feels very nostalgic and old school. The same can be said about the red MSI logo. There’s an interesting hinge design, which from the pictures doesn’t feel that tough, but we’ll have to see it and test it in person to make such a claim. In terms of portability, the Raider GE68 comes with a weight of 2.70 kg and a profile of 27.8 mm. The bigger Raider GE78 bulks up to 3.10 kg and has a profile of 23 mm.

Display

The Raider GE68 offers a total of four display options, an FHD+ 165Hz IPS panel, and two QHD+ IPS panels with either 165Hz or 240Hz refresh rates. Lastly, there’s a 4K UHD+ IPS display with a 120Hz refresh rate. On the Raider GE78, you get the FHD+ 165Hz option and the QHD+ 240Hz option.

Specifications and features

Performance-wise, the smaller Raider has the Core i9-13950XH, while the bigger laptop comes with the Core i9-13980HX. Both CPUs have 24 cores and 32 threads, as well as the same amount of cache (36MB). The Raider GE68 has three GPU options, the RTX 4060 and RTX 4070, capped at 140W. The bigger Raider keeps the 140W RTX 4070, while also including 175W versions of the RTX 4080 and the RTX 4090.

The port selection of both laptops includes two USB Type-A 3.2 (Gen. 2) ports, two USB Type-C 3.2 (Gen. 2) ports, a Thunderbolt 4 port, an HDMI 2.1 port, an SD card reader, a LAN port, and a 3.5 mm audio jack.
