Acer’s Swift X laptops have traditionally offered discrete graphics, and the latest Swift X model is even spicier, offering the Alder Lake P-series and an Arc GPU, which have been few and far between, as Intel is struggling to attract customers, mainly due to driver issues and the GPUs not being as good as they internally thought they were, relying a lot on the Resizable BAR tech for memory management.

Design

The laptop has a fully aluminum design, which is needed, considering its big footprint of 16 inches. The Swift X comes in a gunmetal grey color, which looks good, while the use of subtle branding holds the package together. The device weighs 1.75 kg and has a profile of 17.9 mm, which we consider lightweight for its size.

The base of the device sees a long and thin grill, with a DTS logo near it, so it might or might not be used for audio.

Display

The display on the front gets upgraded to a QHD+ IPS unit with a 16:10 aspect ratio and an IPS panel. It’s got a max brightness of 400 nits and supposedly offers 100% sRGB coverage, which we find believable.

Specifications and features

So far, there’s only one CPU + GPU combo to choose from, with the Core i7-1260P and the Intel Arc A370M. The CPU is quite good, with its 12 cores and 16 threads. It manages to deliver a lot of performance, but it’s very cooling-dependent. As for the Arc GPU, it supposedly has very good video rendering capabilities, thanks to the AV1 hardware encoding on the GPU die itself. However, if you want to game on it, you will run into issues, especially with games that don’t have DirectX 12 support. The port selection of the laptop includes two USB Type-A 3.2 (Gen. 1) ports, two Thunderbolt 4 ports, an HDMI port, and a 3.5 mm audio jack.
