Alienware m18 R1: Full Specs
Design
Alienware has stuck with its otherworldly designs for a while now, which is one of its main selling points, next to all the performance of course. The m18 R1 comes in a dark color that Dell calls Dark Metallic Moon. The laptop is made from aluminum, which is stronger and lighter than the plastic that’s found on more affordable gaming devices. However, don’t mistake the m18 for a light machine, as it weighs 4.23 kg and has a profile of 25.10 mm. The design is very similar and consistent to other Alienware devices, with a flat lid that has the company logo as well as a horizontal 18 inscription. The rear of the chassis extends further to the back, housing some of the I/O, as well as some mighty-looking heat vents. Honeycombs are a large part of the design, being implemented for the vents as well as the huge grill on the base.
The port selection includes three USB Type-A 3.2 (Gen. 1) ports, one USB Type-C 3.2 (Gen. 2) port, as well as two Thunderbolt 4 ports. The rest consists of an HDMI 2.1 port, a Mini DisplayPort, an SD card reader, a LAN port, and the infamous audio jack.
Display
The display selection consists of a QHD+ 165Hz IPS panel and a FHD+ 480Hz IPS panel. Both displays have the same max brightness of 300 nits, the same contrast ratio of 1000:1, and the same color coverage, covering 100% of the DCI-P3 color gamut.
Specifications and features
There are several CPU options, all from the Raptor Lake HX series, which have more cores and a higher 55W base TDP. We kick off with the Core i7-13650HX, a 14-core, 20-thread part. Next is the bigger Core i7-13700HX, with 16 cores and 24 threads. Lastly, we have the Core i9-13900HX and the Core i9-13980HX, which have 24 cores and 32 threads each. As for graphics, the entire RTX 40-series is available to you, all the way from the entry-level RTX 4050, to the mighty RTX 4090. The power limits aren’t specified, but we expect the higher possible, which is around 140W for the 4050, 4060, and 4070, as well as 175W for the 4080 and 4090.
