We’re all for introducing tech to children and modernizing education. Technology is all around us, so it’s better if youngsters know their way around it. However, we can’t really agree with HP’s pricing of the Chromebook x360 11 G4 EE. For the hardware that it brings and the fact that it runs ChromeOS, you can get a much better-equipped laptop for the same amount of money, even for less. You’ll see what we mean by it by reading ahead.

Design

The laptop is made to survive the classroom and in the hands of a child, with a thicker plastic chassis that measures 22.86 mm and some reinforcements on the inside as well as the corners. It complies with the MIL-STD-810H standards for durability, being able to survive a drop from 122 cm, as well as splashes of liquids up to 350 ml. The lid and the bottom panel have a rubberized finish, which shows no smudges or scratches. Since kids like to poke and pride everything, the keyboard has been anchored to the base so the keys can’t be yanked and potentially swallowed.

The port selection of the device includes two USB Type-A 3.2 (Gen. 1) ports, two USB Type-C 3.2 (Gen. 1) ports, a MicroSD card reader, and a 3.5 mm audio jack. Considering the smaller form factor, it’s adequate. The weight is a bit much, at 1.51 kg.

Display

At 11.6 inches, an HD IPS panel is a good option. It has a resolution of 1366 x 768p and 220 nits of brightness, which will be enough in most lighting conditions. As this is a convertible, the screen has a touch layer, as well as a glass cover to protect it from scratches.

Specifications and features

The laptop is powered by the Intel Celeron N5100, a 6W processor with just 4 cores and 4 threads. Under ChromeOS, it will deliver snappy performance, when browsing the web and loading apps. The Jasper Lake graphics are a similar story, as you can watch videos and movies on it, but anything more and you’ll see struggles. The Chromebook comes with up to 8GB of LPDDR4x memory running at 4266 MHz, as well as up to 64GB of eMMC 5.0 storage. As we said in the intro, the laptop with its current price tag is too expensive for the features that it offers.
