Lenovo ThinkPad P14s Gen 3 (AMD): Full Specs

Design

For a laptop of this price, we’re expecting premium materials. However, we get a lid that mixes glass fibers with carbon fibers and plastic. This will ultimately result in a strong part, however, the plastic base doesn’t inspire a lot of hope in us, unless there’s some internal bracing inside that the company doesn’t want to share with us. In terms of colors, we only get black, but that’s the trademark color for ThinkPads so we’re fine with it. Lastly, the weight and height are pretty great, at 1.29 kg and 17.9 mm, respectively.

Display

The display selection includes several 14-inch 16:10 panels. The base configuration includes a FHD+ IPS panel with 300 nits of brightness, an 800:1 contrast ratio, and around 60% sRGB coverage. This version also comes with an optional touchscreen. Moving on, there’s another FHD+ IPS panel, this time with higher 400-nit peak brightness, a 1000:1 contrast ratio, and 100% sRGB coverage. Lastly, there’s a 4K UHD+ IPS panel, also with a touchscreen, 500 nits of brightness, and 100% DCI-P3 coverage. It comes factory calibrated with a dE value below 2, but we’d have to test it for ourselves when we get it in for a review.

Specifications and features

In terms of power, you can’t find anything better than the Ryzen 6000U series for portable notebooks. You can choose between the Ryzen 5 Pro 6650U or the Ryzen 7 Pro 6850U, with either 6 or 8 cores and either 12 or 16 threads. The chips are incredibly efficient, while the Pro treatment should deliver better performance and stability. For graphics, you have the Radeon 660M for the Ryzen 5 and the Radeon 680M for the Ryzen 7, which can comfortably run games, with esports titles at good settings, and heavier games at low to medium settings. What’s more important is the sheer increase in rendering performance, so if you work in some graphically intensive programs, you’re looking at a significant bump in power.

The port selection of the device includes two USB Type-A 3.2 (Gen. 1) ports, two USB Type-C 3.2 (Gen. 2) ports, an HDMI 2.0 port, a LAN port, and a 3.5 mm audio jack. There’s some optional stuff as well, including a SmartCard reader and a Nano-SIM slot.
