5 reasons to BUY the Lenovo IdeaPad S340 15″

1. Battery life

Lenovo IdeaPad S340 packs a big 52.5Wh battery. Translated in English you will get 12 hours of web surfing and more than 10 hours of video playback. When you have a large battery you can play casual and light games without worries that the laptop will be out of juice after 30 minutes.

2. Good CPU and GPU combo

Тhe quad-core ULV Core i5-8265U and the integrated UHD 620 will take care of your daily tasks such as web surfing, videos, and office work. The snappy CPU guarantees good performance without draining the battery fast.

You can have some fun and play games like DOTA 2 and CS:GO with more than 60 FPS average thanks to the discrete NVIDIA GPU.

3. Price

We all want a good laptop for а small amount of money. Well, S340 will do the job. We have Core i5-8265U, NVIDIA MX 230, 8 gigabytes of RAM alongside blazing-fast NVMe on board. For 340$ you can’t ask for more.

4. Backlit keyboard

When you are typing in a dimmed room you will appreciate the keyboard backlight as well as the two levels of luminosity. You can work at night with ease, without worries that you will not find the right key.

5. Good amount of ports

Ok, HDMI is common these days but a USB Type-C 3.1 (Gen. 2), two USB Type-A 3.1 (Gen. 1) and an SD card reader are welcome aboard. It means that you can use any kind of flash drive you have and you can view photos and videos from the storage of your camera.

2 reasons NOT to buy the Lenovo IdeaPad S340 15″

1. TN Screen

Ok, at least it’s a 1080p. The contrast is just 360:1, the viewing angles are bad, the display covers just 54% of the sRGB, the maximum brightness is 227 nits. The screen is usable only when you are sitting in front of it. The PWM is there too, but at least it has a high frequency and it’s safe for a couple of hours of usage.

Installing our Health-Guard profile not only eliminates PWM but also reduces the harmful Blue Light emissions while keeping the colors of the screen perceptually accurate. If you’re not familiar with the Blue light, the TL;DR version is – emissions that negatively affect your eyes, skin and your whole body.

2. Questionable cooling solution

The cooling solution isn’t very effective because it relies on a single heat pipe. It is a thick pipe but it’s not good enough for long gaming sessions. The GPU is clocked quite high and after half an hour the core frequency is reduced from 1721 MHz to 1262 MHz. It is not completely bad but two heat pipes would do a much better job here.

 The best competitors

We already said that the laptop is very good for its price and packs decent hardware, but if you are looking for more alternatives, have a look at ASUS VivoBook S15 S530 and IdeaPad L340.
