Acer Predator Helios 16 in-depth review

The Acer Predator Helios 16 (PH16-72) is a gaming machine that is offered with high-end hardware. This includes 55W Intel Raptor Lake-HX Refresh CPUs and an RTX 4070 or a mighty 175W RTX 4080. There are zero compromises in terms of gaming features and yes, you get G-SYNC, Advanced Optimus, and MUX switch. The upgradability and the port selection are also very good. When it comes to displays, there are two 1600p IPS models. The base one has a 240Hz refresh rate and the optional mini-LED 250Hz model is only available as an option for the most expensive machines with an i9 processor and 4080 GPU. Still, we decided to buy a device with the default panel which is actually a good choice since it's impressively color-accurate.Wi-Fi 7 is also on board alongside a great full-sized keyboard and[...]

    Disassembly, maintenance and upgrade options

Opening the DeviceUndo the 10 Torx-head screws securing the bottom panel. Detach the two plastic caps in front of the vents. Carefully raise the back side while holding the two plastic exhausts at the rear. Avoid applying excessive force. Once half of the panel is popped, hold the left side, swivel it slightly, and rotate it to the right to release all internal clips.More info: The inside of the bottom panel has a dedicated socket for the battery, a thick dust filter in the middle, and a thermal pad for the Wi-Fi card.Battery RemovalUnplug the battery c[...]

    Office Work

Office Work should be used mostly by users who spend most of the time looking at pieces of text, tables or just surfing. This profile aims to deliver better distinctness and clarity by keeping a flat gamma curve (2.20), native color temperature and perceptually accurate colors.

    Design and Gaming

This profile is aimed at designers who work with colors professionally, and for games and movies as well. Design and Gaming takes display panels to their limits, making them as accurate as possible in the sRGB IEC61966-2-1 standard for Web and HDTV, at white point D65.

    Health-Guard

Health-Guard eliminates the harmful Pulse-Width Modulation (PWM) and reduces the negative Blue Light which affects our eyes and body. Since it’s custom tailored for every panel, it manages to keep the colors perceptually accurate. Health-Guard simulates paper so the pressure on the eyes is greatly reduced.
