Acer Aspire V15 (V3-574)’s screen has good color accuracy, but lacks in gamut coverage

Acer’s new sleek and elegant V15 is a great addition in the Taiwanese company’s mainstream notebook portfolio. The laptop comes with a 15.6-inch multitouch FullHD IPS panel, which has Acer BluelightShield technology for reducing the intensity of the harmful blue light from the backlight.

The screen offers average sRGB gamut coverage lower than most IPS panels. The yellow triangle shows the coverage of Acer Aspire V15 (2015, V3-574G). The low coverage of the V15 leads to considerable errors in colors with 100% saturation in the red and purple area.

We tested the screen after recording the calibrated profile in Windows with 24 commonly used colors like human skin, green grass, blue sky, etc. Most of them are in the middle of the color gamut and after calibration their accuracy is very high – average DeltaE 2000 = 0.90 (deviations under 1.00 are only detected with special measurement equipment).

The screen of Aspire V15 can be used for Internet browsing or watching videos, but it is not suitable for professional work with colors due to big parts of the color gamut missing. On the plus side the screen has high contrast, good color accuracy of colors from “Color Checker” and Acer have taken steps to protect the eyesight.
