Acer Predator 17 (G5-793) is the well-known predator but with the more affordable GTX 1060 GPU on board

The latest representative of Acer’s gaming lineup is now here. This year’s renewed Predator 17 version is now available in some markets. It is quite identical to the Predator 17X with GTX 980 but this time it carries the more budget and yet very powerful GTX 1060.

predator_17_g5_793Acer Predator 17 (G5-793) makes use of a quad-core Intel Core i7-6700HQ (Skylake) processor ticking at 2.60 to 3.50 GHz, and with 6MB of cache memory. Graphics-wise, the laptop features comes with the new NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1060 (Pascal architecture) with 6GB of GDDR5 memory. This combination of CPU and GPU should ensure more than a satisfying performance in most contemporary games. Some of the configurations include 16 or 32 GB of DDR4 (2133MHz) RAM but if you wish, you could add more because the motherboard supports up to 64GB for its four slots.

Acer Predator 17 (G5-793) has a big 17.3-inch display with an IPS panel and Full HD (1920 x 1080 p) resolution. Additionally, the screen offers good viewing angles and pixel density (approximately 127 ppi) which become indistinguishable at a distance of a little over 60 cm.

f35afc15-6266-4336-b2de-46936a11de9c-jpg-_cb273896947_Acer Predator 17 is meant for gaming and multimedia tasks which are heavily dependent on audio quality to achieve their purposes or an influencing atmosphere. Of course, good audio is impossible without good loudspeakers. Fortunately, the laptop has four stereo loudspeakers and two subwoofers for better emphasis on the lows.

All these hardware components are powered by an 8-cell lithium-ion battery whose capacity is 6000mAh. It is expected to allow for 8 hours of usage after a single charge, according to the manufacturer.

If they used the same panel as on the higher-end Predator 17, then yes, no PWM.

That’s interesting because we didn’t have any problems with the Predator 15 and 17 in our reviews – they’ve always managed to keep the inner temperatures relatively high but no thermal throttling occurred. We will get one with a 1060 for a review and see what’s up.

I have this model and it does not even come close to overheating. In fact it has a great cooling system. This is an excellent laptop and coming from someone as picky as me that says a lot!
