Activision planning a MW2 expansion over a new Call of Duty game for 2023

While the new Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2 reboot still hasn’t hit Battle.Net and other virtual shelves, Activision and Infinity Ward, the publisher and developer combo behind the COD franchise are already thinking about the future, and a new Call of Duty game doesn’t seem to be a part of it.

According to industry leaker @TheGhostOfHope, Activision is planning to release a big DLC with a new campaign story and a new map pack in late 2023. The pack would include classic maps from the OG version of Modern Warfare 2, one of the most popular entries into the franchise.

The claim was further backed by @JasonSchreier of Bloomberg, who didn’t give concrete info about what the expansion would offer but said to expect a new post-MW2 COD game in 2024. Activision hasn’t released a statement to comment on the rumors but in their latest Q2 2022 earnings call they said for fans to expect “new premium content” for the “Call of Duty ecosystem”, which doesn’t really sound like a new entry into the series.

The new Warzone 2.0 is also coming out this year, and as both it and COD are popular games in the esports space, you’d need a proper rig to enjoy it at high framerates, in order to be as competitive as possible. For example, if you want more than 144 FPS at 1080p, including bumping up the settings so the game looks good as well, a high TGP RTX 3070 or 3080 would be right up your alley.
