ASUS ROG G501 is already on the market and its price is lower than we expected (not so much, though)
The long-awaited ASUS ROG G501 is finally on the market, although at this point it can only be pre-ordered. Our information is that the units are already shipped so we could expect the model maybe even earlier that the stated date of March 31.
This is the moment when we could thank our insiders, thanks to whom we managed to reveal the specs to our audience one month ago.
In case you haven’t heard anything about G501 yet, it’s an ultra-thin gaming laptop, which is advertised as the “Coolest & Quietest” one on the market. It features two high-quality Sunnon fans with independent fan control for the GeForce GTX 960M GPU and the Intel Core i7-4720HQ CPU.
If you’re still not impressed, keep in mind that besides the twin fans and the powerful GPU and CPU, the slim body of ROG G501 also features 2.5” HDD slot, PCI-Express x4 M.2 SSD, two RAM slots and 4K IPS or Full HD display.
ASUS ROG G501 weights 2.27 kg (5.00 lbs) and its exact dimensions are 383 mm x 255 mm x 20.6 – 21.3 mm.
The price of the configuration which is available for pre-order is 1176 EUR, which gets you Core i7-4720HQ, 12GB of RAM, GeForce GTX 960M, 1TB HDD and a UHD 4K IPS display.

Is it foreseen an FullHD IPS screen? about the slots and the gpu, is gpu a mxm replacable one? A personal question: Given that some of the last need a lot of vram( Ryse, Wolfenstein:TNO;) is it supposed that this 4 GB card will manage them better than the 2 GB ? The last one, for the editor Simeon Nikolov: For an enthusiast but not hardcore gamer, me, is this gtx 960m enoughly futureproof for the next 5-6 years? I don’t bother lowering to high or médium graphic level and just HD resolution in-game.
Yes, there is a Full HD version, but we doubt that it would be very popular because its price is just ~50 EUR lower than the UHD one (with 4GB more RAM).
I woudn’t recommend the G501 for a long-term (5-6y) choice. For an enthusiast like you, I think that you should choose a beefier 970M machine, over a thin-and-light 960M one. Especially given the fact that they’re similiarly priced – G751 will get you GTX 970M for 90 EUR more.
Nice Nice Nice!!! 😀 Can’t wait!
@alex, depends on the fps you’re aiming for. I assume 60fps, and in that case I don’t think games that are released 6yrs from now are playable on medium settings. We already see that games become increasingly more challenging for pcs to render high/ultra settings at 60fps, for example a 980m cannot even do this for AC Unity (with more examples to come I would guess). 2-3 years would be more realistic I think.
Where can it be pre-ordered?
I see it now the hyperlink is added, thanks
Yes, sorry, we were distracted by another great laptop, interesting information about which we’re going to share with you in a moment =)
So, this version with no 512ssd and 4gb of Ram less costs 900€ less than the fully upgraded one (1,999$) presented today?
Can’t be.
$1999 are 1890 EUR, so the price of the fully upgraded one is ~700 EUR more, which isn’t very surprising, given the fact that the configuration above doesn’t have the expensive M.2 PCI-e SSD… If the US price is the same as in Europe.
How is this machine different from the Zenbook Pro UX501? Aside from the color ofcourse. Both have FHD/UHD option and nvidia 960m.

Weird..
I doubt we’ll get the G501 for 1176€. Typo?
@Roel: It’s definitely interesting and we’re going to discuss it in details, very soon.
@Glubb: It’s not a typo, G501 is coming in a week at a price of 1230 EUR (the price has changed a little):

1 EUR = 1.955BGN
How much will a this laptop cost if and SSD is added (128 or 256)?
NVM I found the price 🙂
When is this laptop going to be release for the UK? I’m even thinking of importing it from Bulgaria but the website doesn’t deliver to the UK.
