Elden Ring’s newest patch shows some evidence of Ray Tracing coming soon along with a new expansion

Elden Ring is undoubtedly one of the better PC Games to come out in 2022. All from story to gameplay, it’s definitely a front-runner for game of the year. Combining the combat experience of the Souls franchise with a story outline and world created by George R.R. Martin, it’s a premiere choice if you’re into the RPG genre.

While the game came out pretty spotless on launch, it still didn’t have Ray Tracing support, which Free Software, the studio behind it, said was coming a bit later.

A bit later might be very soon, as the most recent patch of the game includes some evidence, which leads us to believe that support for Ray Tracing is coming sooner rather than later. Lance McDonald, a popular modder and data miner, which specializes in titles released by From Software, shows that some new menu strings have found their way inside the patch, which are simple messages for when you change the settings on a supposed new Ray Tracing menu.

One more thing from the data mine is that there were data and references to two new maps, which leads us to assume that an expansion or a new DLC with more story elements is coming in the future as well.

For 1080p, an RTX 3060 gets the job done without breaking a sweat, while at higher resolution, you will need to employ the heavy-duty stuff, meaning the RTX 3070, RTX 3080, and their Ti equivalents. On the AMD end, the RX 6600M does come with 2GB of extra VRAM, compared to the 3060, however, Team Red still hasn’t fully fleshed out its ray tracing features. Then we have the RX 6700M and 6800M which will take care of higher resolutions.

If you’ll want to tackle the game at 1080p or even beyond, the new 2022 versions of the ASUS TUF Gaming A15 and F15 are great budget and mid-range offerings, with high-TGP RTX 3060 and RTX 3070 graphics. You can also take a look at the Legion 5 series from both 2022 and 2021, which includes the regular Legion 5 as well as the 5 Pro, which puts a Creator spin on things.

The most powerful laptops that we’ve seen so far, include the MSI GE76 Raider, which packs a 165W RTX 3080. The GPU currently holds the #1 spot in our Top Laptop Graphics Ranking. If we want to take a look at what AMD has to offer, the new Legion 7 comes to mind, sporting an RX 6850M XT.
