Sony Xperia Z3+’s battery life doesn’t live up to our expectations or the legacy of Xperia Z3

xperia-z3-plus-when-fast-isnt-enough-a02ae24cafee56e0739b7456a7b3131f-940Either Sony set the bar too high with its last model – Xperia Z3 or there’s something going wrong here. The display’s resolution hasn’t been changed from last year, but the battery capacity has been decreased in favor of the slimmed-down profile of the smartphone. However, we suspect that this change in the battery’s performance isn’t just because Sony crammed up smaller 2930 mAh battery, but the Snapdragon 810 chipset isn’t so energy-efficient as it should be.

To make things clearer, the Xperia Z3+ got 600 minutes of Wi-Fi browsing, 181 minutes of gaming, 513 minutes of video playback and 1346 minutes of talk time. This may seem a lot, but compared to last year’s Xperia Z3 (706 minutes of web browsing, 300 minutes of gaming, 615 minutes of video playback and 1750 minutes of talk time), this is a big decrease in battery performance. The difference of just 170 mAh battery capacity can’t be the only thing messing up the battery life. So we think this may be due to the Snapdragon 810 SoC, because we saw similar decline in battery life in the Xperia Z4 Tablet as well.

What’s your standpoint on the matter? Is the Snapdragon 810 CPU responsible for the strong reduction of the battery life or there’s another vital aspect on the issue we didn’t take into consideration?

That very low time for gaming might be due to poor optimizations(g flex 2 with the first 810 iteration scores one more hour in gaming)…but overall it.s clear that 810 is an epic fail,,,
