The Intel Core i7-8650U hits the 13th place in our Top Laptop CPU ranking. The processor delivers much faster performance compared to its 7th gen predecessors.

Now let’s quickly cover the specs sheet. Part of the new 8th Generation Kaby Lake Refresh, the CPU is a direct successor to the Intel Core i7-7500U from the Kaby Lake generation and the Intel Core i7-6500U from the 6th Skylake generation. In addition, it features a total of 4 cores, support of the Hyper-Threading technology, relatively low TDP of 15W and also keeps the same 14nm manufacturing process.

What’s more, the Core i7-8550U ticks at up to 1.9 GHz base frequency, while Turbo Boost frequencies remain pretty high – 4.2 GHz ensuring fairly high multi-core and single-core performance during short workloads. The processor is also paired with the integrated Intel UHD Graphics 620 which stands out with the support for Google’s VP9 codec and H.265/HEVC Main 10.
