One of the best Bulgarian mountaineers Boyan Petrov continues to make history. The zoologist who managed to win the battle against cancer twice is the Bulgarian who has conquered the highest number of peaks above 8000 meters – 8 up to this moment. Despite this success, Boyan has suffered serious injuries several times (he has broken a leg twice) but this does not stop him.

A year after a motorcycle accident and with nails in his leg, he was the first Bulgarian to climb what many consider the most difficult peak – K2, which is also the second highest peak. In the same year, Boyan managed to conquer two other 8000 meters high peaks. It was in 2016 that he fell unconscious and spent time in a very life-threatening condition after a traumatic brain injury caused in a car accident.

All this is “everyday stuff” to Boyan and today he is on the road again – on his second attempt to climb Gasherbrum, also known as K4, which is a peak 8035 meters in height.
