AOC C24G2AE/BK quick review – Can game and do content at the same time
Display quality, Buy our profiles, Verdict
As for the display itself, which is the most important part, we have a Full HD VA. VA is still an LCD panel, however, there are some slight differences when compared to IPS panels. VA panels generally garner much higher contrast, so images can look better. On the other hand, IPS screens come with better viewing angles and have a predisposition for better color coverage.
What’s more important for gaming, is the refresh rate and response time, which will ultimately decide if a monitor is suitable for gaming or not. The monitor offers a 165Hz refresh rate and a 1ms response time, which is best felt in esports titles and shooters, where precision is vital for winning. The monitor does support FreeSync Premium, which means that your games need to run at 120 FPS at least, as the range that the technology works at starts at 120Hz. When active, it gets rid of all the tearing of the image, matching the refresh rate to the fps of the game dynamically.
The monitor has another ace up its sleeve, as it offers full sRGB coverage, meaning that it’s suitable for learning Photoshop and other Creator software, and even doing important color work. Now, let’s get you more familiar with colors and color gamuts.
Here’s an illustration (Fig. 1). The whole “sail-shaped” map below consists of all the colors we can see, while the black crooked line shows all the colors from real-world scenes and nature around us.
Then, we’ve drawn some of the most important and interesting color spaces, compared to the colors the panel of AOC C24G2AE/BK can show:
Standard/For Web: sRGB – widely used color space for most consumer devices, ideal for Web design and development
For Print/Photographers: AdobeRGB – used in professional photo editing, graphic design, and print
For Movie/Video Editors: DCI-P3 – used in high-end film production, post-production, and digital cinema
Premium HDR: Rec.2020 – the widest consumer ITU color standard, covering a massive 75.8% of the visible spectrum, a benchmark for premium HDR content
AOC C24G2AE/BK: the yellow dashed triangle (– – – – – –) represents the range of colors this monitor can display. While not stretching above the entire sRGB gamut, the color gamut of the monitor in the blues, purples, and pink colors, the monitor goes above the sRGB values in the greens and reds. This calculates to a color coverage of 120% of the sRGB gamut.
(Fig.1) AOC C24G2AE/BK covers 120% of the Web colors (sRGB)
So what would happen if AOC C24G2AE/BK tries to show the bright Green color on the top left of the Rec.2020 Color Space? It will show the closest color it’s capable of which is a washed-out version of the one you see there.
Color accuracy
Now let’s see how big is the difference between the real colors and the one you’ll see on the AOC C24G2AE/BK. We measure that distance in DeltaE – the bigger the number, the more different they look.
Good news, everyone. Thanks to the wide sRGB color coverage we managed to create a profile that makes the screen much more accurate compared to its factory state. For the next illustration, we’ve chosen 24 common colors like dark and light skin, blue sky, green grass, etc.
Values below 2.0 are considered suitable for color-sensitive work. Before our calibration of AOC C24G2AE/BK (Fig. 2), the Average color accuracy was 4.1 dE, and with our Web Design and Office Work profile, it reaches 1.5 dE (Fig. 3)! This is an almost 3x increase in accuracy (2.73, to be exact).
All you have to do is enable the Web Design and Office Work profile in the LM Profiles app.

Health-Guard eliminates the harmful Pulse-Width Modulation (PWM) and reduces the negative Blue Light which affects our eyes and body. Since it’s custom-tailored for every panel, it manages to keep the colors perceptually accurate (they may seem strange at first but after a few minutes our brain will start recognizing them as accurate ones – that’s how Health-Guard differs from alternatives like f.lux).
Pro Tip: As the Health-Guard profile simulates paper and has as accurate as possible colors, it could be a great tool for prepress designers!

This isn’t the only good improvement you get using the Web Design and Office Work profile, though. It also aims to deliver better distinctness and clarity by keeping a flat gamma curve (2.20), and an optimal color temperature (6500K). This is very important for those who often read texts or look at tables on their screen.
There are two more profiles in our bundle – Gaming and Movies, and Health-Guard. The former regulates the first steps out of black so you can have even faster reflexes when playing in dark virtual environments…or just see everything in the darkest scenes in movies. The latter eliminates the harmful Pulse-Width Modulation (PWM) and reduces the negative Blue Light which affects our eyes and body. Since it’s custom-tailored for every panel, it manages to keep the colors perceptually accurate (they may seem strange at first but after a few minutes our brain will start recognizing them as accurate ones – that’s how Health-Guard differs from alternatives like f.lux).
In addition to receiving efficient and health-friendly profiles, by buying LaptopMedia's products you also support the development of our labs, where we test devices in order to produce the most objective reviews possible.

Office Work
Office Work should be used mostly by users who spend most of the time looking at pieces of text, tables or just surfing. This profile aims to deliver better distinctness and clarity by keeping a flat gamma curve (2.20), native color temperature and perceptually accurate colors.

Design and Gaming
This profile is aimed at designers who work with colors professionally, and for games and movies as well. Design and Gaming takes display panels to their limits, making them as accurate as possible in the sRGB IEC61966-2-1 standard for Web and HDTV, at white point D65.

Health-Guard
Health-Guard eliminates the harmful Pulse-Width Modulation (PWM) and reduces the negative Blue Light which affects our eyes and body. Since it’s custom tailored for every panel, it manages to keep the colors perceptually accurate. Health-Guard simulates paper so the pressure on the eyes is greatly reduced.

Verdict
The AOC C24G2AE/BK is not just a gaming monitor. Yes, AOC advertises it as such, however, we’re here to say that it’s a perfect canvas for a gamer, who also records, streams, and edits their own gameplay, a gaming star in the making. For that purpose, the monitor is very good, as the refresh rate and response time of the VA panel are great for fast-paced FPS games. Our profiles also manage to make it much more accurate, lowering the DeltaE value significantly (from 4.1 to 1.5), so you can enjoy the perfect visuals in your games. The increase in accuracy is so massive, that it makes purchasing the profile bundle a no-brainer. The VA panel isn’t as good for Creators as IPS panels, however, it’s still pretty good, and you can definitely get a lot of video editing and Photoshop done, so plenty of videos and thumbnails for your YouTube channel.
