Dell Vostro 16 5630 review – modern-looking device with PWM-free display and basic cooling solution

    Design and construction

Now it’s time to see the looks of the machine. It seems like a typical modern Dell office device and that’s good. The design is simple, sleek, and up-to-date with its rounded corners.

The laptop has an aluminum build which corresponds to the high expectations for such a device. The lid is a bit bendy when you apply some pressure on it but overall it’s fine.

We observed some flexes on the base while typing, especially in the zone between the Space key and the touchpad. Maybe this is due to the fact that the device is thin – the profile is 15.67 – 18.30 mm while the weight is 1.90 kilos.

You can open the lid with a single hand. We can spot thin bezels around the display, and the top one houses a Full HD Web camera with a privacy shutter. When the lid is opened at a wider than 90-degree angle, the lever system will lift the backside of the device which positively affects the cooling capabilities and the ergonomics during work.

The keyboard is comfortable for typing because it has a decently long key travel, clicky feedback, and a backlight. There is a NumPad which is important for an office device.

The optional fingerprint reader is located above the power button. So, it won’t take up additional space on the touchpad. The latter is medium-sized, its surface is smooth, and the unit is accurate.

The bottom plate houses two speaker cutouts and a large ventilation grill. The hot air has been exhausted through a vent positioned on the back of the device and it is aimed at the lower part of the display. This is not an ideal solution.

    Ports

Let’s check the ports. On the left, you will see the charging plug, an HDMI 1.4 connector, a USB Type-A 3.2 (Gen. 1) port, and a Thunderbolt 4 port with DisplayPort and Power Delivery capabilities. On the right side, we can spot a security lock slot, an Audio jack, a LAN port, a USB Type-A 3.2 (Gen. 1) port, and an SD card reader.
