Genesis Neon 750 RGB review – great value and quality for the money

As always, gaming peripherals are very important, when it comes to a complete and satisfying gaming experience. That includes a mouse (and mouse pad), headphones, desk, gaming chair, etc. For this article, we’re going to show you a gaming headset and this one is called Genesis Neon 750 RGB. At first sight, this product looks good, both side cups are RGB illuminated (well, this can be a pro or con depending on your preferences), the leather cover feels almost premium, and we got a remote controller on the cable.

In addition, as with most Genesis products, the Neon 750 RGB will not cost you a fortune. The good news is this gadget can be hooked up to computers, laptops, consoles, tablets, and smartphones. This is possible because the headset comes with a 3.5mm jack that has a USB connection on one side, and there is a converter that transforms the single 3.5m jack to a dual 3.5mm jack. So far so good, let’s inspect the device closely.

What’s in the box?

The case of the headset is sturdy so the product is well protected. The headphones are placed on a thin plastic stand, and you can find also a manual, a 3.5mm jack with a USB plug, a detachable mic (nice), a USB extension cable, and a converter from a single 3.5mm jack to dual 3.5mm jack. At least for us, the default packaging is rich in extras.

Design and construction

For sure the headset looks like a gaming piece of hardware. There is a good amount of padding on the earcups and on the headband as well.  It’s good to see that the earcup holder is made of metal so it’ll not break into a hundred pieces if you aren’t careful enough. Speaking of the earcups, they are big enough for most ear sizes, and on the outside, they have a glowing Genesis logo and a backlit circle stripe as well. The band is adjustable so people with big or small heads (probably) should not be worried. The USB cable looks like a quality one and it’s long enough.

Usage, Features, and Testing

As we said, there is a lot of padding for your head and ears. In reality, it leads to a comfortable experience while using the headset. The material for softening the area around the headband is softer compared to the one that has been used for the earcups. Actually, that’s the right decision – you don’t feel pressure on the upside of your head while using Genesis Neon 750 RGB and the padding around your ears is a bit firmer but it’s not hard at all.

The pads are grippy and they are not “trying” to slip away when you are gaming for long hours because the holding pressure is good. Moreover, they are not spongy and they are keeping their shape as is no matter how long you’re using them. The eco-leather feels soft and it looks like a quality one on a touch. It’s not causing sweating but maybe in a hot environment or during summer, you can probably feel some sweet on around the ears.

The plastic around the earcups doesn’t feel cheap at all and it houses the RGBs. The backlight is put into effect neatly – it’s not intrusive at all and its lighting is glowing smoothly. Hardware-wise, the headset is equipped with 50 mm drivers and the manufacturer is claiming a 95 dB signal-to-noise ratio and 106 dB sound pressure level. In real life, this translates into hearing your enemy’s footsteps loud and clear so you can orientate from which direction the bad guys are coming. Listening to music is a good experience but don’t forget the fact that it’s a gaming headset so if you tend to listen to music more often than playing games, maybe you should look somewhere else.

The long USB cable has a nice texture on it and it looks like it’s going to last. This cable houses the remote control. Some of you may prefer to have all these control functions on the ear cups but this remote control weighs almost nothing and we found that it’s easy to use after some practice. You can control things like volume, you can turn on and off the microphone or you can shut down the backlight as well

The microphone is detachable which is great to see – if you don’t need it you can remove it with ease. This shaves away some weight and it leads to better privacy if you often forgot to turn off the mic while you don’t need it.

Verdict

The Genesis Neon 750 RGB is a good headset that doesn’t cost too much but at the same time, it offers good build materials, good sound quality for games, and a lot of goodies in the retail box. This includes a USB extension cable, a 3.5mm converter, and some other already mentioned extras. The box is sturdy and the inside parts are well protected.

The headset is made of quality materials – the plastic doesn’t look cheap and the leather feels soft and quality on a touch. The headband is made of metal and you can easily adjust it. The padding on the ear cups and on the headband is soft enough for comfortable usage. The USB cable has a decent length and it has a nice texture on it. We really like that the microphone can be easily detached and the headset feels great and comfortable even in long gaming sessions. The RGB implementation has been done in the right way – it’s not too intrusive. For that kind of price tag, the Genesis Neon 750 RGB brings a lot of bang for its money.
